Got a Vibe; first GM ever

Post by momsvibe »

Last Saturday we rounded out the family fleet with the purchase of a 2006 Vibe. It's a base with crank windows, which I like, but has a power moonroof, which I don't like, but wifey and kids do. Oh well, it's my wife's new DD, and so far she really likes it. It should be mcuh easier maintenance-wise than our Euro-beasts.I confess: this is my first-ever GM product in 32 years of car ownership. I feel good about having this vehicle, particularly now and here in SE MI.Cheers

A lot of us don't even consider the Vibe to be a GM product as it is built at the Toyota-GM joint venture plant and has a Toyoto drive train and many other Toyota mechanical parts.

We parked them side by side and popped the hoods, There was no difference at all between the two drive trains, bolt for bolt the entire under hood looked exactly alike!Look under your seats, the electronic boxes are emblazoned with TOYOTA.Count me among the VERY satisfied Vibe owners, you should be very happy with your car provided it has been taken care of by the Previous Owner.dave

But I like very much the cruise control and remote keyless entry. If I was poor enough I could probably live without those as well. My kids will just have to be satisfied with a smaller inheritance.

Welcome to GV There are several guys on here with the "Wifes" car, it has a tendency to shift to "our" car, either way she should be happy with it, its a great little car, and you should be happy not having to stick a bunch of money into it to keep it going for a long time.Keep the fact that most of your car is a Toyota, if and when you should need a part, because several people have found the parts at the Toyota dealer less expensive than the Pontiac dealer. It may not be the case for everything but aleast you have another outlet for comparison.

I can attest to Toyota being cheaper. Pontiac wanted $200 for a trans flush, Toyota, $130......70 bucks cheaper! was out in 40 minutes!

Yes, I realize our Vibe is a grandchild of the NUMMI Nova, but that means we get the fuel-efficiency and reliability of the 1ZZ-FE, as well as lots of other Toyota parts. I do rationalize that against the facts that the car carries a domestic nameplate, was assembled in the United States by, I presume, U.S. citizens, and we bought it from an old-line Chevy-Buick-Pontiac dealer in a small town nearby. Its color is metallic burgundy, code 44U, which I think is called "Salsa". It has plenty of little rock chips on the leading edge of the hood-not unusual I understand. Sorry, no pics yet since I don't have a working camera anymore. I'll have to wait until our daughters come home from university for the summer and bring their cameras.

to the "old-line Chevy-Buick-Pontiac dealer in a small town nearby." I leased two Toyotas from a local Toyota dealer in the mid to late 90's when the lease deals were no brainers but I'd never want to play poker with the guy. Back then my ploy was to take a competitors ad to the non-advertising dealer and they would gladly meet the deal to make the sale - but if you went to the dealer running the ad the car was all but nailed to the floor.
