That's nuts! I'll never own another black car, but others who want one shouldn't be denied the privelege. Wouldn't there be a greater saving of energy if they outlawed dark colored roofs on buildings?

That's big government for you. These are extraordinary times, so the government has no choice than to take extraordinary measures.

I still like my black Matrix. Cali can vacuum a big fat one IMO. Notice all the dumb laws start off there. But I wont get political in this forum.

They've apparently done that or similar which makes sense and was a success so they've moved on to other victims!on a tangent here but......The trouble with full time paid law makers is they seem to feel an overwhelming need to fill their time making laws simply to justify their existence!! Full time law makers are really what should be outlawed and law making should become a part time endeavor of service to your community. Hmmmmm we started that way back in the 1700's didn't we??Dave

The California Air Resources Board is composed of control-freaks with the powers of sheriff, judge and executioner all rolled into one. The regulate portable gas cans, BBQs, lawn mowers, home fireplaces, outboard motors, etc. It would be good for the rest of the country if the proverbial "big one" hit and Calif did drop into the sea, taking all these looney tune micro-managers with it before they spread more their disease east to the rest of you.

That would spare the "idiots" and just leave the Capital as valuable water front property!Dave

But the loonies in Sacramento derive their political power from the highly "blue" populated coastal counties from SF south to LA. If it breaks at the fault line, only the coastal counties N of SF remain, and while they are blue, they are not highly populated. Also, Sacto is low lying in the Sacramento/San Joaquin river delta area. If when the big one hits the delta area drops in elevation by just a few feet, we're rid of Sacto as well. Of course being in Orange County, I'm gone too, even if it is a "red" county.

sooooooo... because some people have a dark colored exterior they use the air conditioning more? how about interior parts too? i would think that an enclosed cabin with dark colored seats, dash, and trim would be warmer than having an exterior dark. *facepalm*.this makes no sense. not all people use air conditioning. i never do. come summer i just open the windows. even on hour+ drives i just pop the windows. if they do ban black cars across the country, i'm changing my frosty to a very dark navy blue.
None. Vibe is gone.

Fair enough....Who draws the line between no-too-dark blue and slightly-too-dark blue?If I get pulled over by a cop and he gets out his coded color pallet, kneels next to car the and start comparing samples... I'll laugh my *** off....

I think most of the California loonies come from areas west of the fault line.Butter that is legal for sale in states east of California has to have special labeling to be legally sold in California. The "1 FIRST QUALITY 1" you see on the end panels of packages is a creature of California law. However, does anyone in govt. ever check to see if the butter complies with the California "1 FIRST QUALITY 1" standard? I bet the answer is Noooooo. Milk that is legal for sale elsewhere is not legal in California - have to add extra milk solids in California - purpose is to assist California dairy farmers. No cents off coupons allowed in California on certain dairy products I am told.

I'm planning to leave once kids are out of school (private - don't even get me started on what the loonies have done to public schools in Taxifornia since I attended in the 60s).

So once they regulate car colors they will pass a law outlawing driving with open windows over 40 MPH. Hope I'm outta here by then.

Seems to be a fundamental lack of understanding of the basics of heat transfer for the folks at California's Air Resource Board. Oh yeah, science rarely needs to be understood in order to legislate it. I'm not sure how they reached the assumption that 50% of light and heat enter through the windshield. I think they need to reveal the methodology they used to determine that. Maybe they should just require limo tint on all new vehicles - that will solve their problem.I'd like to see them modify the laws of gravity to allow more Californians to conform with a fit profile.Sigh...it does seem that they understood the conflict between fuel economy standards and this CO2 issue. I guess they take the stance that it isn't "their problem".Also, I take issue with the claim that they will save 0.3 Million tons of CO2 by minimizing interior temperature. I have to confess to never turning my air conditioner off - although I do adjust the temperature (slightly), the air is still being compressed and dried out.

Ugh. I hate CARB with a passion. Nothing like a government entity that has a tiny bit of power that uses it in horrible non-common sense ways. Combine that with the fact that they're allowed to generate money through licensing, and suddenly every aftermarket part that's legal in 49 other states has to be passed through CARB. CARB takes $1500, decides if it's legal or not (which seems arbitrary) and then forces a re-certify for each model year of that car, and even between models with identical powertrains.
