motor mount vibration after clutch replacement?

Post by davehatch »

Hey all,I have a 2003 GT with about 160k on it (mostly highway miles) and the clutch started slipping last week so I got some quotes and took it to russ moore for $675 installed.Got the car back and it was running extremely rough and was told it was due to the battery being disconnected and the ecu having to "relearn"itself....after four days of not getting better took it back and found out that they forgot to hook up one of the vacuum hose lines....got that fixed and now for a new problem...the car runs fine at speed but when it is warm and idling I can feel a vibration in the seat of the pants that resonates throughout the whole car...there is also a loud metallic squeak coming from the engine bay down by the battery/clutch area.....the engine vibration and sqeak are only present when it is idling (about 800rpm) and warm....if i blip the throttle the vibration and squeak go away.....Does this sound like a loose motor mount? Would this be a possible source for the squeak as well? I don't know the specific procedure to replace a clutch but I am assuming the engine has to be disconnected from the motor mounts and lifted up to get to the clutch? I didn't notice the vibration or the squeak before they fixed the vacuum line hose issue since the car idled so rough it would barely run w/o stalling. I just don't want the engine mounts to prematurely wear out and cause future problems....Gonna take it back friday to have them look at it and will post any updates....It's been a long time since my last post but this car has been so dependable there hasn't been anything to report...Dave

Update: Took the car back to russ moore, they diagnosed it as a vacuum leak and supposedly fixed it. Drove it home and the vibration was still there...took it back a week later (hoping it would go away on it's own) and they again diagnosed a vacuum leak, and supposedly fixed it. Brought the car home again and sure enough, the vibration is still there. Both times I couldn't pick the car up from them until after they closed so I couldn't check it before leaving their lot.Scheduled an appt with a local pontiac dealer who checked it out and said they couldn't find anything....checked the engine, computer parameters, engine mounts, everything...even applied some dressing to the main belt in case the pulleys were squeaking......and even though they said they couldnt' find anything wrong it hasn't had the vibration since...so they must have inadvertently fixed it without even knowing it.....definitely restores my faith in the dealerships again!Now...for a different problem....there is a squeaking or chirping that seems to be clutch/tranny related because if i am sitting at idle I can hear the chirp but if I slightly press in on the clutch pedal it goes away....I can't tell if it makes the squeak while normal driving but I can definitely hear it at idle like in a drive through where the sound resonates off the building wall....Is this something as simple as something rubbing where it shouldn't and readjusting the clutch pedal would fix it...or could it be something major that was caused by the recent clutch replacement at russ moore? i would definitely rather not take it back to russ moore since I don't trust them but if it is related then they would have to investigate/fix it under the clutch warranty...all suggestions welcome! thanks!
