Anybody own Acadia/Outlook/Enclave/Traverse?

Post by mspalmer »

Anybody own any variation of this vehicle? We're looking to replace our mini-van whose lease is about to expire. My brother has the Acadia and likes it okay but I wanted to know if anyone else has any experience with any of these. We're leaning towards the Outlook because my wife loves Saturn. I hope Saturn doesn't get sold but it is looking more likely. If so, I would assume that any other dealership would honor the 100,000 mile warranty. All responses welcome (both positive and negative).thanks,Mike

Forgot to mention, still keeping my Vibe, though. It is almost paid off and haven't had any major problems with it.

For about 35-40% less you probably could get a 2009 Dodge Caravan SE. But it is still a minivan. I just don't see $30,000+ value in those large GM SUV's. [Then for a couple thousand more than the Outlook you could be in a Highlander. There is also a comparable Hyundai for $2,000 less.] That's just my opinion. I hope to get to the auto show this coming weekend. Maybe seeing them will change my mind. However, the thought of paying $30,000+ for any car is hard for me to accept, [This from someone who in his youth bought a new Cadillac Deville Convertible in 1967 for $5,700 plus tax - 95% financed. That was about 60% of my annual salary at the time.]

My sister has an Enclave, it's pretty nice! I know very little about her experience with it though... I do think she does like it better than the crappy Venture she traded in. Those all seem to be pretty decent alternatives to the ordinary minivan or especially the large SUV's... And decent fuel economy for something its size.

I drove an Acadia from early November until the end of January when I traded with another person to drive their G8. I put almost 8k miles in that time frame. Mine was AWD, and handled superbly in the snow (I drove in all types of snow conditions.) I had no problems with anything. Gas mileage was improving, but I would have liked to get better. It was only getting 3 to 4 better than the Yukon I was driving.

Wow funny you posted as we have been looking very seriously at the Traverse (to replace our 9 year old Montana minivan; and like you we will be keeping our Vibe). I wont buy the Outlook as it appears GM is ditching this division. We will be able to obtain Employee Pricing but still this is an expensive vehicle. We are just not sure when to pull the trigger as both our current cars are paid for so going into large debt any sooner than we really need to is what weighs on our minds. I think and hope that GM has got it right with these Lambda platforms.

FYI - AD in today's paper- Maxton Chevrolet'09 Chevy Traverse Automatic, Power Windows, locks, mirrors, keyless entry, cd playerMSRP 29,065 - $750 rebate - 1,500 bonus cash - 2,330 dlr discount = $24,485.This dealer has a full page ad almost every day of the week. Must be getting a break from the newpaper.

Why would you need Canadian incentives? It shows that you are in Hockeytown which everybody knows is Detroit Everybody in SE Michigan knows that Detroit is Hockeytown USA but obviously not Hockeytown, North America. Thanks for everybody's response. We are planning to go talk to the dealer today and see what kind of deals they are offering. We should be able to get employee pricing through a friend but at worst we would get supplier.

I always thought the Traverse was different from the Acadia and Outlook. It looks smaller to begin with.Personally I'm a big fan of the Acadia, looks really nice. But I would also give serious thought to a Mazda CX-9 if I was in that market.

My Dad's got a Traverse. I haven't seen it in person yet but he seems to like it.

Thanks for everybody's response. We actually picked up our new '09 Saturn Outlook XE last Thursday. So far we love it. I would have liked another AWD vehicle but I didn't want to shell out the extra cash. We get a fair amount of snow in metro Detroit but not enough where it would be absolutely necessary to have it.Hopefully I'll get some time to post some pictures this week for so.

No we did not get the navigation, although it would have been nice. We don't travel much outside of the tri-country Metro-Detroit area. Our usual vacation is in the Upper Penninsula at my mom/uncle's cottage where I've been going almost 40 years. If worse comes to worse I can get it on my Verizon phones for unscheduled trips. I'm sure the navigation system does others things but we were trying to keep costs down (sounds kind of funny when you see the price-tag on these things).my wife loves the Outlook so far. I'm still driving the '05 Vibe to work.
