Wind Noise...

Post by capecodbeachfront »

Will the stick-on type wind deflectors over the side windows and the sun roof help with wind rush noise ?????or just make it louder ????

Depends on the design and how they fit. I put inside fit deflectors (from Weather Tech) on my 98 Frontier and I really didn't notice any significant difference in noise levels with windows closed, or open. They are great for leaving the windows down an inch or so to vent when it rains/snows. I have never used the stick ons yet, so I really can't compare. But I do like what they do.

i think with any kind of visors you'll get a bit of whistling wind noise sound. i have the weathertech inchannel ones and it did decrease wind noise (the slight roaring sound) but created a slight whistling sound at higher speeds. same with my other cars they all have a slight whistling sound.

The noise they generate is worth it for the benefits they provide.

My goal was to quiet the noise already there...although I am beginning to think part of the noise is some how transmitting upward from the tires. I say this because the noise changes with road surfaces. Weird... but the noise also gets quieter the longer I drive without changing speeds.

If you want to get rid of noise, plunk down several hundred dollars for a start and a very long weekend. These cars are not luxury wagons. They have a lot of plastic and not much material designed for dampening the noise the metal transmits from the drive train, wind and from the road surface.Get some quality sound deadening material, self stick, (there are several brands out there)Open up the doors by taking off the door panel and start with the four doors. This all has to be done carefully and will most likely require almost a full disassembly of the window unit to gain good access (or at least better access)Take out the seats and interior panels and cover everything you can with the deadenerTake down the head liner and do the roof panelDisassemble the dash and do the firewallThere WILL be a big difference when you are done but to do it all will cost almost a grand in material and probably a week or more of your life. Is it worth it to you???Dave
