yes, back in 03/04 they had TRD gunmetal rims that were 18's. I remember they were like $1800 or something? I can't remember, but I had wanted them soooo bad! LOL
well, just bought 4 of the rims.. so hopefully they look good on the vibe, lolThey're not going on until spring though. I need winter tires first, going to put them on my beat-up stock alloy 16s. Then next spring the shiny TRD wheels will be going on :DNot sure what tire size they need tho.
i just got a brand new set of the trd 17s as well. purchased it from a owner of the same set on his matrix and he's got 225/45/17 on them. hope that helpscan't wait till spring either to get em on my car!
225/45, eh...everywhere I've looked so far says 215/50/17, so that's probably what I'm going to go with. The General Tire Exlclaim UHP look nice, and they're not super pricy either.so if you have 225/45, your ride is going to be rougher, and your speedo will be off
Update! Looks like the snow is gone for good (knock on wood)..The 17s went on today, with 205/50R17 General Exclaim UHP tires, crappy tire had them on sale. So $400 for the wheels, and $525 for the tires. Not bad I'd say.I went with 205/50-17 tires because that is the closest match to the circumference of OEM 205/55/16.The Vibe GT/XRS would take 215/50 fine, but keep in mind it's a different gauge cluster and calibration. On the base model with those tires, the speed would have been off by about 5%.Looks nice! Pics tomorrow if anyone cares
I think your theory on tire size is flawed, but its your choice none the less. You threw me for a loop asking about 17" TRD wheels, even tho in Canada they come on the TRD edition Matrix, they are in fact Toyota Caldina wheels. http://www.cars-directory.net/...4.jpg I think they should look good your Vibe
This is what I went by, check this out. http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt...ext2= (works better in IE apparently)Tire 1 should be 205/55/16, stock size for the base Vibe.Tire 2 is 205/50/17, there's some computational stats listed beneath.More notably, look at the chart at the bottom. If I wanted to go with 215 tires, I'd have to go 215/45/17 to keep the closest circumference match. Also, since we don't get the Caldina, I'll call them Matrix wheels. Apparently Toyota couldn't get rid of them, thus why I got them for cheap from the dealer
225/45 would have given you the least amount of difference and an increase in contact patch. Hurry up and get those things mounted. I believe you will be the first to run this wheel on a Vibe and I'm curious to see the result.
I opted for the little bit of extra sidewall, since our roads around here suck. My brother's Mazda3 has the same tires on the factory wheels, and he managed to put a little dent in one rim a mere few days after he bought the car new Anyway, Pics!Yes my car is kinda dirty.. I washed the winter off it a couple days ago when it was 15C .. but now it's too cold to wash again for now. Side shotGeneral Exclaim UHP Tirerack.com had them rated #4 out of about 30 summer tires. Good price too.
Looks good. its official you're #1 I ran those tires a few years ago and got really decent treadlife out of them and they do really well in the rain, snow, not too hot, but I only drove them on snow once before switching to winter only tires
I bought the rims brand new from a Toyota dealer, $400 for the set including the centercaps and new lugnuts.Tires came to about $525 from canadian tire.
yup, it was called the TRD Matrix here in Canada. Basically it was a base matrix, with those wheels... and I think the baskethandle spoiler, an exhaust tip, and maybe a shift knob.
Those wheels really look great on your Vibe. When you wear those Generals out, move up a size or two. The 225/50 will give you some extra sidewall between your rims and road damage. Don't sweat the speedometer, just learn what your actual speed is and you will be ok. Didn't take me a day to get used to it when I put mine on. Is $400 for the wheel set a special deal, or what? Is this a normal price at Toyota? If it is, then I spent several bucks too many for my 17's!!!! Oh, and by the way, get that car washed, I could hardly see the dirt for all that damned shine!

$400 cdn even I don't know, the dealer was clearing them out or something. I guess they had some overstock with those particular rims, and just wanted to get rid of them last fall, since the new 09 Corollas and Matrixes were coming out then. And yes the car is dirty in those pictures, most notably on the hood it's pretty dusty. I don't know why it looks so clean in those pictures, I haven't waxed the thing since last fall, and the paint is actually rather scraped up in a lot of places Stupid original owners (was a lease) and I'm sure snowbrushes don't help much.
Looks good! I got my trd wheels for $370 =p Someone selling them on kijiji had a friend who worked at a Toyota dealership and hooked me up. They are having trouble getting rid of them so they're pretty cheap now. I'm just waiting until we get some warmer weather because I'm painting mine graphite. I even got the General Exclaims from c. tire too haha =]
Hey Neo,Great looking rims - just wondering what center cap you got as they don't look like Toyota...sweet wheel I'm picking some up this week,,, ThanksCheers
they're the regular Toyota logo ones. Just can't really see it cause the pic has been downsized a lot, and a bit of glare I suppose. It's pretty subtle, though I don't mind advertising the truth about my car
Well it's official I picked up my rims today (TRD 17") - now for some rubber... Toyota Sale Price $75CDN/ea and the Dealer threw in a set of wheel locks - tax in out the door $336CDN - and they have one set left...and if you're nice I'll tell you what Dealer - it's near Vancouver.. Cheers Thanks for the post I would have never gone looking !!!
Congrats on the purchase. My son has an 05 Vibe with steelies and we've been looking for a set of reasonably priced 17's for him for quite a while now. The TRD 17's are really nice looking. Will have to see if we can find this mystery dealership. It's almost as far away from us as it can possibly be. 75 CDN is great. Thanks for the lead!... would it be Jim Pattison ? Would really like to know!

Sorry Vibo I was kidding sorry if you wanted the info - call Sherry at Open Road Toyota Port Moody ( sherry@openroadtoyota.ca )..If you need a hand shipping no worries they are all individually boxed - pay for them I can pick them up and send them your way I have no idea how much or how to ship but will help if I can..Cheers
Thanks, brbo, way above and beyond the call of an offer! I will do a quick availability check closer to home Monday morning, to see if anyone in Quebec has a set. Shipping from BC to Maine is a West coast to East coast distance. Probably lots of money to ship that far. If local search fails, I'll try to figure out what shipping from BC would be and then PM you. Again, thanks.

Well, I did some hunting around for close by Canadian Toyota stores, and got some emails off to them, one in southern Quebec and the other in western New Brunswick. I used their contact us on their web site... and all I got back was that the emails were undeliverable because they were "Blocked". So, I just grabbed the email addresses for their stores and used my email brouser, instead, for a second try at contacting the same Toyota stores in Canada. Same response! What the heck is going on? I feel very "Blocked". Any ideas out there?

hmmm...they must have gotten my memo not to sell those TRD's to non-canadians i want a set --- just don't have the funds....is your email a generic one like gmail/hotmail or from an ISP?
Hey bull, quit sending those memos! My email is good old fashioned Outlook Express. Does that make any difference? Maybe it's something new from those hard-asses in Canadian Homeland Security? I have a valid Passport, for crying out loud! And a state issued 90 day extension on my expired drivers license, too. So, there, I have papers. And I'm not trying to take over the country. Instead, I would like to find a set of Matrix TRD 17 inch alloys for my son's car. This might be tougher to do than I thought!
