xm radio service - discount offer to keep

Post by jake75 »

On my new '09 - xm is offering a 3 month extension past the free trial @6.99 a month. Maybe that is because I answered in a recent survey that I wasn't going to renew. Tempting but its probably throwing $20+ bucks away no more than I drive. Plus once you give them your cc # they will probably continue to charge after that even though you tell them to quit.

They are pretty hard up to keep subscribers.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=36441Now that they are charging for the webcast, it's even less attractive.

I cancelled my second Sirius tuner a week or so ago and they send me a new offer every few days to reactivate. I'm waiting for a deal too good to pass up. They are bleeding financially and really want to keep subs...

I see you can send them a check for that three months. I might do that so they can't dun my cc. I am changing banks (mine got bought out) so if they try to debit my checking account they will be s-o-l as well.$7 a month is probably about what xm is worth.

speaking of xm, does anyone notice the volume from xm is very low? not sure if it's just mine but it's pretty low and i have to set my volume to almost in the middle. but then when i listen to cd or just regular radio the volume is loud from where i left it.

When my free year ran out, I told them I was not going to pay for a subscription. They then made the offer for 3 months for $20, I said no. They then made an offer of $4 dollars a month if I paid for a year at a time, I still said no. They kept calling me even after I requested that they stop calling me three times in one month. I had to threaten to get a lawyer involved if they didn't stop calling me. They finally quit calling me. I felt harrassed, and I won't do business with that kind of company.I used to have a Skyfi XM unit and subscribed when I was a truck driver. It was great for that application. I was in the truck all day and I could listen to my favorite music without it fading out every 20 miles or so. It was disappointing when they upped the price from $9.99 to $12.99 and the last I saw, they were talking about raising it again. Now more and more of their channels have commercials on them. When I started listening to XM, there were no commercials. Now there are few commercial free channels. I am not going to pay for listening to commercials for the few minutes I spend in my car every day now. I no longer drive truck and XM is not the value to me that it once was.

XM is in the position that the marginal cost is zero so they are $48 ahead. Perhaps I will just make them that offer and see what happens.

They have been calling my house to offer me $7 a month for 3 months for the past couple of months and it's getting really annoying. When I had XM, I only listened to the comedy stations but after awhile, it was just a repeat of a repeat. AND it has commercials too! Seems like the only stations that doesn't have commercials are music stations, but I don't listen to music that much. If they offer e $7 a month for a year, I might bite then.

Looks like she's been 'Vue-ing'. XM was a great idea, except that it didn't realize the subscribers it really needed to become profitable. So now, Sirius/XM is trying to make the returns it needs by upping the price. Unfortunately, pushing those prices up is pushing people out. It was easier to justify at 7 dollars a month... but at 12.99 and up, I'm not sure. 84 dollars a year isn't too bad. $156 a year is getting out of hand for radio, regardless of its transmission source.

I recently ditched the xm too, 4 year subscriber. Since the merger the quality has gone waaay downhill IMO. I refused their discounts and free offers. I'm kind of surprised that I don't really miss it.

Maybe the Vue isn't as cool as the Vibe? When Saturn was first introduced there was a Saturn discussion site, on Prodigy as I remember. Owning a Saturn was sort of like joining a religion in those days. The chief priest was a man from Columbus, Al Clappsaddle. He was an unpaid spokesman at the Saturn exhibit at the annual auto show. In retirement I think he worked part time as a salesman at the local Saturn dealer. All of the local Saturn dealers were owned by the same person. That, and the Saturn no discoiunt/fixed price policy, pretty much eliminated any price shopping. Some liked that - for me it would take the "fun" out of buying a new car.

I got a rather good deal on mine....supplier pricing and like 5,000$ off that....I miss the vibe...I looked in to getting a new one...but the price was way too high then and they had no offers going on cause they were too new...being an unemployed individual with a master's degree and 3 teaching certificates, I had to go with whichever was cheaper...I consider the Vue and the Vibe to be very similar...in fact many people though my vue was a vibe...haha

I used to use it a couple years ago when my work commute was 45 minutes and I didn't have a cd player in my second car. I tried canceling it like 4 times before giving up and finally after about 4 or 5 months they called and said they were canceling the subscription because i hadn't paid for 4 months...so naturally I responded with "is that what it takes to get it turned off?!?!?"So if that answers your question, you can pay by check instead of credit card. Even with the issues I had with canceling I did like XM A LOT and I really want to get it again. I'm really surprised no one likes it! I HATE the regular radio with a passion. I cannot stand the same top 40 songs over and over again, there are no electronic music stations on the regular radio and probably 90% of the cds i own are trance or country or something similar. I just hope they will let me sign back up without paying my previous balance (removed)...

I may have missed something. Saw you (TraySeeLea) and your vibe on the Pontiac mag last year and then you traded it in last May. What happened to the Vibe? By the way we're getting a Vue as an office vehicle next month, so hopefully it's a decent ride. It's replacing an old Caravan that is now in the shop, again! Sirius/XM content is definitely not as good as it was when I started my XM subscription. If you drop it, though, you'll find out pretty quickly how bad terrestrial radio really is on a daily basis. I normally don't use XM in my car, since my commute is only 18 minutes. The ride to work is good for getting a dose of world news from the BBC. But, XM is on at home a lot of the time. We also set up XM at work. Would really miss it, if it went away.

My family still has the vibe (I think it is registered to my mom)...it is only an 06 so I wouldnt trade it in....it just went to my younger sister who has a skewed sense of reality when it comes to cars. She lives in Albany (3 hrs from Rochester...where I live with my parents) and doesn't appreciate the vibe....My dad is a stickler about American cars....we've never had anything that wasn't...my sister thinks a Prius is cooler...I say a big to a prius...yuck. I agree with my dad...support the American economy

Welcome back to the forum! Even though the new Vue is a GM product, it didn't originate in the USA. I'm pretty sure you would find it was developed in Europe for Opel (Germany), Vauxhall (England) and Holden (Australia) all part of GM, and called the Antara. I think your 2nd gen Vue was probably manufactured somewhere in Mexico. The first gen Vue was built in Spring Hill, Tennessee.Loyalty to a certain manufacturer can be complicated. Your dad's heart is in the right place, but some 'foreign' cars now produced here in our country have as much or more domestically sourced content than our own GM/Ford/Chrysler products. The fact that your old Vibe was built in the USA, didn't mean that it was completely American, since it's simply a re-bodied Toyota Matrix. Eventually, the Prius will be built in our country, too. Production at the new facility has been delayed because the Global recession has impacted Toyota's sales pretty badly. Don't get me wrong, we should support our domestic industry and buy American when we can, it's just that making that kind of purchase can be pretty deceiving unless you find out where the car is actually built and where it's build content originates.

I got a call to renew my expired service for $4.99 a month, I don't know how long that would have lasted, I did not let them finish. The only channel I ever really listened to was the family comedy channel and thats not worth paying the fee as far as I am concerned.

I'm actually looking forward to my free subscription running out. It should do so in mid-Sept.I found a few stations that were okay (60's on 6, Underground Garage, Outlaw Country and Classic Vinyl) but didn't like much else. On those stations I do listen to I am surprised by the short rotation and limited playlist. I hear "For Your Love" by the Yardbirds at least twice a day if not x4!Commercial radio never bothered me because as soon as one came on I switched around and found something I liked. Before I bought the Vibe I was listening exclusively to my iPod anyway.

If the channel you're listening to doesn't play new music then, yes, you will be stuck listening to the same songs over and over (Just like your local FM station!) For me it's between The Boneyard, Octane, and Liquid Metal, but generally just Liquid Metal! As for those whining about the cost of satelite radio, it's a few dollars a month. Skip taking the wife out for dinner to a classy restaurant once and you'll pay for a year (or more) of radio!!! (Don't tell her I said that...)

I had two XM radios that were out-of-subscription recently; one on our 2009 Vibe, and another on my Garmin 2730 GPS. XM called me and offered the $77 per year, and when I declined they offered five months for $19.99, which I took. I just have to remember to cancel it before they start billing me quarterly at the standard rate, at the end of the trial period.--Chris
