No more pontiac

Post by Digger »

Local dealer is not selling any more pontiacs. They said GM is not making them anymore.

It will be interesting to see if next weeks news releases (or leaks) confirm this report. To date there is nothing about this in any of the major media news sources. The only mention is that a decision about Pontiac would most likely be out by the end of March 2009.Dave

GM might not be building Pontiacs anymore because they have 5+ months worth of inventory sitting around unsold. I wonder what that dealer did with his inventory. There's too much of it out there.

Hi all, I was just picking up a part for my Sunfire today at my local Pontiac dealer where I purchased my Vibe and was asking about this internet rumor of not being able to get Pontiac's anymore. They all but laughed and said that getting them isn't a problem (getting financing is THE problem for buyers) and went on to explain what they've been told about Pontiac's future as a niche market. I asked about if they heard anything about the Vibe and they feel the Vibe, being the number 4 seller in it's class, would probably end up wearing a Bow Tie.FYI they are a Pontiac, Buick and GMC dealership here in Jersey.Dave

Hi,My guess is that maybe your dealer is going to close and either is choosing to not get inventory or they are hurting so bad financially that THEY cannot even purchase a car from GM any longer. There are a record number of dealership locking their doors or having their doors locked by the Sheriff for them!Dave

According to the "insider" here 2010 PONTIAC Vibes are being built as we speak but they have not gotten this far east as of yet.Haydocy Pontiac has 30 2009's listed on their website. A mix of 1.8's, 2.4's, GTs and 1 AWD. That's more inventory than all of the other dealers combined.

Wouldn't they then come out with a Warner Bros. edition. LOL.I doubt they would move the Vibe to the Chevy side. They are going to be making that new Cruze and probably will have a hatchback based on that car. If anyone needs a NEW small car, it's dodge. The Caliber is just too boxy and such a stark removal from the Neon (in terms of a sedan or pocket rocket). Yes they have the SRT, but I have yet to see one on the road. The Pontiac G3 will be chopped off the line before the Vibe is. That's my opinion. I'm still watering at the mouth with the new Jeep Liberty. White Limited with the skyroof package, mmmm. And with the pricing and 5k back and 0% financing, its almost too good to pass up. I just need more equity into my current car before I can trade it in. Too much negative at the moment.

Do they sell Pontiac/Buick/GMC or just Pontiac? The standalones have been pretty much killed off, they all now are going through the Pontiac/Buick/GMC channel...

Rumor is that they are going to buy/merge with the Buick deal around the corner. That is going to leave one empty dealership facility and no doubt a few unemployed people. The Pontiac-GMC dealer has the better location but the Buick place is a lot newer. Personally I would opt for the better location.

I don't know the annual sales - the Buick dealer is about 49.500 sq. ft,,built in 1987, property value $2.7 mil, re taxes $70,000. The Pontiac -GMC dealer property is 47,000 sq ft, built in 1973, with just about the same value and re taxes. The Buick dealer has 49 new cars listed on their website. The Pontiac-GMC dealer has 122 new cars listed on their website. The Pontiac-GMC property is owned by the owner and his wife. The Buick dealer property is owned by a LLC. Might be that the same LLC also owns the dealership. There is a Ricart Chevrolet dealer also close by. Ricart sold his nearby Chrylser dealership a couple years ago. At that time the rumor was that this Chevy dealership was going to be bought by the Pontiac-GMC dealer but that never happened. Coincidentally that Chevy property is also valued at about 2.7 Mil. It is still owned by the man who sold that dealership.

All I know is what my neighbor told me. He went in to look at a new pontiac to replace the leased one his daughter has. They then went to another lot and found one. This is when he was told no more pontiac: he went in to dicker price between tow dealers. They told him dont bother we are not selling pontiac anymore since they are not being made by gm. Your guess is as good as mine.

Come on down to cowtown. There seem to be a good supply of Pontiacs here. And everything else for that matter. Auto show is this weekend - seems like they often hand out auto show discount coupons worth an extra $500.

What did they do to (removed) off GM's distribution network!!?!I'd move on to dealer # 3 for you seem to be the ONLY source for this news. The rest of us in other areas have dealerships with good inventory that tell us they can get virtually whatever we desire. It's possible WE are all being lied to or that Ohio is the only place where truth is told.....but unlikely.Search any recent news sources for the auto industry. Any glimmer of Pontiac being gone would be screaming in the headlines. It just doesn't exist and secrets are very hard to keep in any industry.Dave

Ricart will turn his facility into a body shop and used card lot. I suspect GM Corporate may have greased that deal a little as part of a program to reduce the number of dealerships. The news article said that in the first two months of this year Gill Pontiac-GMC has sold 27 new vehicles, down 43% from 2008, and Ricart Chevrolet 38, down 52% from 2008.So if the Vibe becomes a Chevy I am covered.Next - what is going to happen to that Buick dealer around the corner. I doubt they have sold even 27 new vehicles the past two months.

Same Great Place, Same Great People, Same Great Service, and NOW CHEVROLET: More of What you Want! After over 27 years of selling Pontiacs and over 21 years of selling GMC Trucks, Dave Gill is pleased to add Chevrolet’s full line of cars, trucks and SUVs to our company’s new vehicle offering at our current location on the corner of East Broad Street and Hamilton Road. The transaction, which was approved by General Motors today, includes Dave Gill’s purchase of Ricart Automotive’s Chevrolet franchise that has been operating down the street from us. We will NOT be changing our location, however, and will be offering new Chevrolets at our existing location within days.We are very excited to offer Chevrolet’s award-winning line of vehicles to our current customers and to the Central Ohio community. This acquisition says a lot about our faith in General Motors and specifically Chevrolet. While selling new Chevrolets is a change, you can continue to expect Dave Gill to provide the same great service, same great people, and the same family-oriented way of doing business to which you have become accustomed. Our loyal customers have been essential to the growth of our business over the last three decades and we look forward to serving you in the future with this exciting new lineup!Sincerely,David GillOwner and General ManagerDave Gill Chevrolet Pontiac GMCP.S. – Please tell all your Chevy-driving friends!

Sounds like things are moving along at GM. So, where would a Vibrolet fit in Chevy's current line-up, anyway?

The plot thickens.Article in this week's Columbus Business First:A deal among auto dealerships on Columbus’ east side may become a three-way boon for sellers of General Motors Corp. vehicles.Dave Gill Pontiac GMC Truck Inc. acquired the neighboring Ricart Airport Chevrolet dealership March 17 for an undisclosed sum, adding GM’s Chevy badge to its car and truck lineup.I have faith that GM is going to be here in the future, Dave Gill said of the beleaguered automaker. We wanted to add Chevy at our location. But that might not be the only change to the Hamilton Road dealership landscape. Gill’s Pontiac and GMC business may move a block north to expand the portfolio of Len Immke Buick LLC, where three GM makes would be united at one showroom.GM would like to see him sell the Pontiac and GMC business to Immke Buick nearby.------------------That would not make me happy - my dealer [Dave Gill] would end up being a Chevy dealer - Immke would become Buick-Pontiac-GMC. Immke sold its Cadillac dealership not too long ago, but still also has a Honda dealership.Of course this may just be rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic!

I have been talking to some local people "in the know". It does look as if my long time Pontiac dealer that just bought a nearby Chevy franchise may be selling his Pontiac-GMC franchise to the Buick dealer around the corner. I would think that someone who has sold Pontiac-GMC for 25 years would be very reluctant to give that up and change to only Chevrolet cars and trucks but that may just be the way things are these days. Maybe a Chevrolet-Pontiac-GMC dealership just isn't in the cards, but I have seen a number of dealers with this combination.
