Some good news and some bad news

Post by Sublimewind »

Hi all,I have both today... can't decide which I want to get into first.. How about the bad... Dow Corning announced that they are laying off 800.. Starting with voluntary retirements and working down, so the possibility of me getting laid off is getting more and more pronounced (I'm a contractor)... The good news is, I may have the possibility of getting a magazine feature in Performance Auto & Sound... If I can just get my audio install finished and to a level worthy of coverage.. I got a PM on another forum of mine from a photographer (from the Detroit area) asking me for more pics and a mods list for the Subie... After I sent them, he asked me if the car was getting an audio system, so I sent those pics.. He came back to me saying that if I can get it finished, he could almost guarantee me a feature... !!!! So, if I can get all of this.... Into here... I may have a shot... I've got a LOT of work to do, a good bit of expense to get it all done yet and to be perfectly honest, I don't know if I'm up to task... Self doubt is running rampent ATM... So, that's it, it's a possible dream come true, that could be spoiled by our wonderful economy..

As much as I, myself, would want to install it all and be featured. I hate to say that, I would hold off to see what happens with my job. It sounds like the feature would be there in the future, however the job may not. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but reality sucks. Now, on the other hand, you could take the time and effort to install everything, get photo's taken, then uninstall it all later if you have to sell for lack of income. To me it would not be worth it unless I knew it was staying in there. Tough decision, Aaron. I feel for ya, and will be praying that you make the cut. Good luck, man!

Is there a market for a 'How-To' audio install story? Maybe your photog can be there WHILE you do the install, not just the finished product.Best wishes!

Thanks guys,Yeah, it's a toss-up... I have a Q&A meeting today at 2:00 about all of this, so hope I know better after... I'm not looking forward to it... BUT... better to know than not to know... Besides, the "low men" do most of the work, while the higher ups, design all of the work and do all the paperwork... lolAFA the install, if I get time off, I'm still getting un-enjoyment which could give me the time to do what I need around the house and car... But I would have to get creative with the money.. My and the GF already discussed the car and we will do whatever it takes to NOT be forced to sell it... Yeah, I'll have to sell my luscious body on the streets.. lol..

Well, the Q&A meeting went ok I suppose... Most eligible got either a retirement or and early out option, the the early outs mean some cuts to the pensions.. So, many will retire i'm sure (1000-1200 eligible) 800 "required" and some will get forced early i'm sure... And then the rest... Being a contractor, i'm cheap, with no real benefits being payed by them (I contract to them through another company) yet skilled labor, so I hope that keeps me safe, being the very specialized skill set I carry.. Now if only the continue to want to invest in the work my group is doing... That's the key... A lot of companies are cutting a LOT more out of their R&D areas, but we are getting cut like 5% total, so that says something about the overall scope of work coming out of the R&D area.. So far so good... fingers are crossed... On a lighter note, I had my brother stop by and pick up a chunk of this carbon fiber, sandwiched fiberglass "dress up" panel I had, for him to take to work and see about laser cutting some logos out of it...

well, crossing my fingers for you. HOWEVER, having said that, should the need to sell the RS ever come up, please let me know. Seriously.
