alright my question is I have the old navi setup in my vibe and tomorrow ill be buying a JVC KWAVX710 double din. My questions are.. 1. Do I have to buy some mounting brackets for the install? ( I would assume so but just curious)2. How much would it affect the fact that its a factory Navi system with the 6 cd changer??3. Would I need a harnessNow before you start answering away, I have after market components in the front regular door speakers in the back (also aftermarket) with a 4 channel amp... also 2 db drive subs with a mono block amp. I have rca's hooked up to a cross over in the back to work with my stock head unit but I can just hook up my rca's to the new setup and then just set the remote wire and a solid ground and boom!!!... right???... well thats what im thinking... But please correct me if im wrong and any input on the install would help.I know many of you have done it with the regular stock cd players but have any done it with the navi? thanks for your time
Jorge,You will basically be bypassing everything now... No need for the changer or anything that went with the factory navi... you can in essence remove it all now... I would assume the new JVC will have onboard crossovers, so you could even remove the external crossover you have, removing another link in the chain that could induce noize or other problems... It's also nice to be able to chance crossover settings on the fly for various types of music... So if you are listening to some classical one day, you might want the front components crossover point a little lower to bring out more of the lower midbass, where as if another day you are listening to some R&B/rap, you may want to raise the front components crossover point to protect the components from the driving bass they usualy produce... Same with the sub, on the classical day, raising the sub crossover point from say 80hz, to 120hz can provide more impact for passages that could use it... While on the rap day, you could go from say 80hz to 60hz to not strain the sub and allow them to produce only the lowest of the lows... Harness you will need, i'm not 100% sure WHICH harness you will need, i'm not really 100% if there is more than one... I used a basic, non-navi harness for my install tutorial, which is something you might want to look at (in the DIY section) as it has the Metra PN there if that is the harness you have to use.. There are others here that have installed double DINs, though I have not, I can't imagine it's difficult and you likely remove the factory brackets and use them on the JVC (this happens a LOT)Good luck, let us know if there is more you need help with..
Well Jorge,I just looked up your JVC and i've got bad news, it's only got ONE set of RCA output and they are for the REAR???? I can't imagine something like that being sold with ONE set of RCA outputs, it's silly... This really throws a monkey wrench into the plans, from my point of view... You will still need the external crossover and you will have VERY little "audio" adjustment.. in terms of balence, fade, and crossover settings... I can see why you purchased, based on the prices I saw, but all in all, I would chose a different unit, if at all possible... it's very limited in function, but not in form... you get a lot of internal gadgets, but making connections to everything else is sucking bigtime... Sorry bro...
i see what you meant about the rca hook ups Im pretty sure if I read up more on it I think ill be able to put it in with n problems I just have to find out which harness i need for my car. Thanks for the advice and ill be sure to check out the DIY thanks
well ive went to numerous sites and checked to see if the harness for navi and regular are the same and every site comes up with them being the same harness... Im pretty much eliminating the navigation now since everything is going to a new setup and I really would have to worry about all that I would think. It doesnt seem to hard to do but we'll see once we begin to tackle the job I am about to take off to go and get the harness and the mounting kit for the car so wish me luck
Good luck mang.. If you are stuck somewhere, don't hesitate to just stop and ask, but, my tutorial it's decent, so with your own skillz, you should be fine... With the way you are alreadt set up, you just need the constant/switched power, ground and remote.. I'm still not 100% sure how the rear only RCA set is going to help you.. but I guess you can control balance with gain controls.. but you may have to run it like you have it now, with speaker level inputs going into the crossover... ??
well it wasn't as hard as I thought I still had to use the cross over the rear rca's were perfect for the subs and the harness was kind of point less since like you said sublime all I need needed was remote, ground, power, and switch I believe it was.... other then that the install went smooth as can be I love the new setup I can hear my speakers to there full potential now can wait to post it up I'm also doing l.e.d.'s in the car and I hope those come out good as well but we'll soon find out haha thanks for the help man pix will be up soon!
