IP Noise

Post by couderay1 »

I have an 09 GT. Great car in every way except for a very annoying dash noise. Heard on very bumpy pavement or minor potholes. Sounds like plastic on plactic. Loud chirps. Worse in cold weather. Dealer trying to cure but has been unable to resolve so far. Anyone else with this problem?

hmm on my ms3 i get a noise like that from my lower windshield. turns out its the cowl plastic banging on the windshield or other plastic. Some hockey tape on the bottom of the cowl under the wiper blades helped that. Is it in the middle or on the side?

I have the same problem. Drives me bonkers. From what I can tell, it has to do with the defrost vent. It seems like the vent meets in the middle, but is actually two separate pieces, and I think those pieces are clinking together or it may be the vent clinking against the dashboard, may be worth just a little piece of hockey tape as suggested on the inner corners of the vent.

I think pretty much all of the Vibes have it.

Yes I have the same thing-if someone finds a cure please tell me. I'm a bit reluctant to have the dealership trying to rip my dash apart at this point.

Mine does the same exact thing...I am extremely confused by it, and if i take it to the dealer, they cannot find it, and if they don't hear it, they cant fix it. If someone figures this out..please post!

I have the exact the same problem. - "Heard on very bumpy pavement or minor potholes. Sounds like plastic on plactic. Loud chirps. Worse in cold weather" - It drives me nuts. Sometimes I want just to smash the entire dashboard. I have Vibe GT 2009. I bought it last July. Put already 12K miles. The problem started somewhere in November when it was just about 4000 mi. I do not know what to do. Despite this car overcomes all my expectations, I have a strong motion to sell it (because of this noise).

we need an 09 owner like ragingfish or vibeowner were for the 1st gen Vibes, those guys were pioneers in disassembling Vibes to see how they were put together, finding ways to solve things like the noise in this thread. Takes a certain kind of person to take apart a brand new car still under warranty though. I don't know what 's under the dash in an 09, but the top of the dash is surprisingly easy to remove on the earlier models, might be worth a look on an 09.

are you sure it's dash problems? Ray Cullen has just ordered me a new steering column for my 2009 1.8. (Warranty fix) It's been making a clunky noise up front for the last 30000kms, Finch said they couldn't duplicate, but I took one of the Cullen guys for a ride and he heard it straight-away. They called t.a.c (whoever that is) and they said there have been cases where the steering column is the cause. Hopefully it fixes it - will post results when it's done.
