2009 Traction Control -

Post by brbo »

Just started reading the Forum again - I have seen numerous posts about Traction Control - and the ability of not turning it off...Are you guys only referring to the 2.4L version ??I have a 2009 Base 1.8L and there is a button to disengage Traction Control..Cheers brbo

You can turn it off for low speed driving, but when you reach 35 MPH the system automatically turns itself on. I do find the traction control annoying especially with snow. It works well, but when you need to power out of some situations (need wheel spin) the computer shuts the power down very quickly.

I have not had to use the traction control very much yet, but when I did it seemed to work fine if I leave it on,...it's just slow. You can't spin the tires up to a churn but so far it has moved the car okay,...just really sowly. I can easily see how that might annoy an experienced driver trying to get across a slick intersection.

If while stopped you press and hold the button for several seconds the traction control and VSC will be turned off until you either turn off the ignition of press the button again. This information is in the owner's manual (8-21).

Try it. It will turn itself back on at 35-40mph. The owners manual lies.

I have done it several times - make sure you hold the button until both the traction control and VSC indicator lights come on.

Well I'll be dipped in... you know what. Smithtlw, I owe you a big juicy kiss! After I read your post, I went out for a spin (pun intended) and it works! I'm embarrassed that I didn't realize this myself. I read that in the manual too when I first bought the car, but I must not have held the button long enough. I never knew there was a VSC light. Not being able to disable the TC was the single thing that I disliked most about the car, and you just fixed it. Thanks.

Confirmed on my 25 minute ride home... TC and VSC off the whole time. Sorry for the lousy phone pic, but I think it is clear that I am going faster than 35mph and the VSC and TC lights are on. ...TPMS light is on because I have my winter wheels on.

Cool, there's been a lot of griping about not being able to keep it off... Good work!

Great find! Now does that get rid of the crazy dinging when your drifting in the snow?

When I disengage my traction control and VSC it stays disengaged until I turn it back. I took it up to 65mph and it did not engage.

im at work now so i haven't driven with it off yet. The annoying part is when it dings/beeps at you to let you know that your rear tire spin is lower than the front (sliding) if you can't feel your car sliding the beeping isn't going to help. I just wont that to stop so i can play in the snow
