Hi All,Has anybody got an electrochromatic compass/temperature mirror for the vibe? With the map lights on the stock mirror, I was just wondering if there was a special one available for the vibe? I havent checked the dealer yet as they are always more expensive. Are there any aftermarket ones available? If the dealer is the only way to go, might one of you have a picture?thanks
We discussed this a few months ago. There's one available apparently for the Matrixhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=3723&postid=38807#38807

Nice! $119 versus $268 from Toyota is a sure sale for me.. the compass could be a little bigger though.. then again, I think Ill take it for the over $100 savings. Plus, there already is a temperature guage in the Vibe, so I wouldnt need the temp on the mirror.thanks! If anybody else has a comparable mirror, please post it here!
wow! look at all those nice parts for the Mazda 6. Sure would be nice if we had more OEM quality parts.I had the auto dimming mirror in my Tundra with compass/temp and map lights. It was pretty nice and saved me from a lot of bright headlights in my eyes. I highly recommend them.

I'm assuming just a switched 12V and GND would be all that is necessary? Where did you get the power from? I'm thinking the 12V to the moonroof controls would work...I definitely want to look into this... Thanks for the info!

Yep, switched power and ground are all you need. I had previously spliced into the cigarette lighter plug power lead when I wired up my radar detector, so I used this same power source for the mirror. I ran the mirror wiring up the pass. side A pillar and under the front edge of the headliner over to the mirror. The moonroff power would probably work well also, you will need to shorten the wires that come with the mirror so you are not trying to stuff 4 feet or so of wire up under the headliner. The front edge of the headliner can be dropped a bit by removing the sunvisors, then twisting the inner sunvisor retaining clips 90 degrees.

quote:Might be something I will get. A compass would really help out when driving on trips. I thought about this, too. My 88 Bonneville had a compass in it, and I liked that a lot. Then, it hit me... I HAVE THE NAV SYSTEM, and THAT has a compass already in it. DUHHHH!

Great tips there! So, the mirror comes with the necessary wiring? Since that's the case, I may just tap into somewhere underneath - power outlet, etc.I may just order me one... Thanks!

Havent got my Vibe yet(probably another month . Is the mirror mount a clip or a cam?thanks
The Mazda 6 uses the same mounting button on the windshield. The Vibe mirror is secured with a screw. Tha Mazda mirror uses a clip (basically, a spring tab that puts pressure against the button as you slide the mirror on). No adapters needed, simply remove the screw from the stock mirror, slide it off, and slide the new one on, and you're done
