Hi ,I am a new owner of a 2009 Vibe not a gt..Nice little car , enjoy driving it and I got everything I wanted in it..Exept I would like to put a fog light on it...Is it easy to install an aftermarket fog light in the bumper ???Right now I only have a black kind of a cover there...Did anybody done this???Thanks: Anton
Well just one fog light won't be too nice looking. I suggest a pair of fog lamps, lol. j/kI would personally look into getting a kit from the dealer. It may cost more, but you will get all the wiring, the stock switches, and it will mount in the spaces you noted.
Call Pontiac: 800-762-2737The same thing happened to me. I bought a 2009 about a month ago. I built a car on the internet with fog lamps and it found the car at a dealer, only the one I bought didn't have the lamps and I didn't realize it until I tried to use them later that evening. I called the dealer the next day. The dealer at first said there was no kit availble so I called Pontiac and the dealer is going to install the OEM fog lamps.

THe cars all have the wiring harness and fuse box already in them. All you need to do is buy the lights and brackets and put in a new turn-signal stalk and you need to put the a relay switch in the fuse box. There should alrady be a place to plug in the relay in some of the cars, but I'm not sure about the basic model. Don't take the dealer's first price which is about $600. Call Pontiac customer service and negotate lower price, since it's with a new car purchase. That's what I did.

All the OEM parts are available, though and the dealers can order them and put them on. I can't figure out why they don't just make them standard. The car is supposed to appeal to the "crossover market" of former SUV owners. The thing should at least look like an SUV as much as possible The option is only $115.
Ok , but what about the plastic cover in the bumper..How do you cut the lamp in it ???Or you have to buy the trim too over and above???I can rig up lots of things , but I have no idea a the trim ..And it has to look right...Anton

You just remove the covers and install the lamps right in the same connections where the covers went. If you're only worried about the aesthetics, you could techincally just install the lamps in the bumper and and leave them non-functional until Pontiac decides to release a kit. You could even hook them to the wiring harness. There would just be no way to switch them on. The standard OEM lamps are $112.75 each and the GT lamps are $128 each.
What is the size of the fog lights anyways???Can anybody tell me please??As far as the switch ,i am sure I can install it somewhere..It does not have to be on the steering wheel ...Does anybody have sizes and a picture of the original lamp and the cover ???thanks

(I'm assuming you own the 2009 Vibe that's shown as your avatar...?)...on a related note, I went to a local company that installs aftermarket accessories like this, and they looked at my car and said they'd only install dealer lights. They said "the new cars are too wierd" and they only do after-market stuff on trucks, SUVs and older cars.
if the wiring harness is already there, wouldnt it just be as easy as plugging and snapping in the fogs, popping in a switch, and putting a fuse in the right place in the fusebox? Where does the switch go? how much does the switch cost?
I've installed a set of PIAA 410 because I didn't like the looks or the light output of the OE lights. It was the largest light I could fit without cutting up the all the mounting tabs of the OE lights. Pretty simple to fabricate stainless steel (lot of road salt used around here) support brackets in the shop. Though about just cutting a hole in the original plastic covers but decided to keep the original in the event I want to return the car back to stock. Being an old school hot rod fabricator made a set of wooden bucks to hammer form sheetmetal trim pieces that are smooth and flush to the bumper more like the look of the GT except for with square lights. Right now they have been sent out for paint. All the OE wiring harness is there but decided against using it due the aftermarket lights require heavier gauge wire to power up the lights. Thought about used the OE harness to power up the relays for the aftermarket lights but just went ahead and ran seperate wiring so the dealer couldn't say later that plugging aftermarket equipment into the OE harness screwed something up.
2009 Vibe 1.8L Manual - DBW controller, Hydraulic engine damper, S/S brakeline retrokit,22mm solid Rear ARB, urethane rear coil dampers, Front strut bar with brake cylinder brace, PIAA 410 driving lights, PRM Intake Wilwood front brakes, Lexus hood lifts
Has anyone performed this retrofit on the 1.8l 09 yet? the harness is all there, the fuses are already in place, but i don't see a relay specifically for fog lights or anywhere on the diagram where it should go...so what parts are actually required? also are the martix stalks the same as the vibes?(i know the fog lights are different sized)i just purchased my silver 09 1.8l vibe a week ago and would like to put in fog lights (they help a lot out in foggy rural area's like mine) as well as variable speed intermittent wipers. (instead of the standard single speed variable). Thanks very much!
Has your dealer actually installed the lights on your car? Seems as if there is no actual "kit" from Pontiac (otherwise, it'd be available as an accessory, like adding a GT spoiler) that the dealer is just rigging something up - though I suppose all the brackets and stuff should work.Quote, originally posted by ned23 »Call Pontiac: 800-762-2737The same thing happened to me. No, I never got the lights. The dealer backed-out of the original proposal. They said it would be $650 to install the lights. That was too much for what is supposed to be a $115 option. I was willing to pay up to $300 for the $115 option but the dealer said that just the parts were more than that (... uh, sure, after the dealer mark-up, they are...)I've been to two after-market places and neither of them would install fogs on the car, either, unless they were OEM parts. So, I'm still fogless ATM. I'm hoping to find some used parts from a wrecked vibe eventually. When I called salvage places back in January they wouldn't even talk to me about 2009 parts, yet.
I wonder what a body shop could do on ordering the parts/install? I was looking more closely at the front bumper of mine and the black vent things look like they might be removable - so you could replace it w/the parts just as if it had been in a wreck?

Cool! The inside switch blank location is what I was going to do with mine. Can you get a pic of just one fog with the lights off?

I will post a cpl pictures later on tonight...By the way the fog light rocker switch gives out just enough light so I can see the switches on the door in the dark...So that problem is solved too...LOL..
Very Nice!I still want to put in fog lights in mine, just haven't had the time to research aftermarkets. Is that the OEM fog light insert?Do you have a wiring diagram for this setup? How did you mount the aftermarket fog lights (or are those OEM)?
Hi Silver,The insert is OEM from GM... $ 60.00 CanadianThe fog light kit is from E-bay $ 75.00 Canadian with shipping..The kit included the wiring, relay, fuse, fog lightbulbs, rocker switch and the foglight unit...The 2006-2009 Camry fog light fits in the bumper as you can see it on mine...Only the switch did not fit in the opening of the wibe ,so I had to buy a switch for $4.00...The Camry switch must be bigger than the Vibe..Here is how I wired it up...
This forums are very good and the people are very helpful and friendly...I am on the Corvair center with my 67 too and it is great...You can learn a lot and makes me feel good when I can help too...Anyways COOL PEOPLE COOL SITE ...
Now I AM really jealous! First you get working fogs going and now I find out you have a Corvair!Back in college (25+ years ago) I tried to get into Corvairs - but couldn't sell a somewhat beaten up Triumph TR4. I was a member of CORSA and everything, made copies of old Hot Rod magazines ("Poor man's Porsche") build up of a Corvair coupe, looked into Toronado and V-8 conversions, you name it.
