octuplets and ethics..

Post by bodhi_tree777 »

Not sure how I feel about this yet. Any thoughts on the ethical impact of an unemployed, single mother of 6 (already) being fertilized and carrying 8 more kids to term all at once?http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29009410/

she lives with her parents, in a 2-3 bedroom house, no job, not with a significant other to help support them. (removed) I think she did this for publicity. look at her now trying to get a talk show on parenting..?!?!! thats insane, she is a horrible mother. she is just banking off stupid americans that want to support her for some crazy *** reason.

Wonder what her mom thinks, cause its most likely her that supporting this family... besides the rest of us who pay into the unemployment system.

She deserves the "Master User of Society" award for her ability to milk honest people and for bringing a whole flock of innocent children into the world who will be dependent on everyone else for their support.

If I remember correctly, I think her mom basically said "I'm outta here" when you get home with the kids.

Definitely not a good mother. No good mother who wants to care for her children and have them lead a good life would even have one (1) child more after having six in those conditions. I mean come on, that's ridiculous. First of all how is she going to care for any new children she would have, let alone 8? And second of all, how the hell is she going to care for the 6 kids she already has while caring for these ones?

From msnbc.com:For a single mother, the cost of raising 14 children through age 17 ranges from $1.3 million to $2.7 million through age 17, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Suleman octuplets’ medical costs have not been disclosed, but the average cost for just one cesarean birth in 2006 was $22,762 in California. The Suleman babies were born nine weeks premature. In California, a single premature birth in 2006 led to an average hospital stay of 25 days and cost $164,273. That would amount to a $1.3 million bill for eight.Suleman’s income is unclear. She was employed by a mental hospital from 1997 through 2008.

She should just sell these 8 kids, that'll give her the money to pay for the hospital bills and care for her current 6 kids.

WOW see how much of a burden she is on the system?!!??! AAAHHHH why do we let people get away with crap like this. There is a coworker here who knocked up his ex and she now has 4 kids each by different dads but is working the system JUST to get free EVERYTHING. she wont get a better job or position so she can keep the income low enough to get all the baby stuff free and everything else... ITS sick. Im all about helping to a extent but people that take it to extremes feel no punishment. bologna!

Kids and Ethics

Post by ou.grizzly »

We actually were talking about this issue on the floor today due to being in L and D. There are so many ways to look at this one; does the US adopt laws limiting the number of children like China? Where do we draw the line, the cost of all those little miracles (in a sense) is coming from tax dollars... This world has lost perspective on what is important and the day of "anything goes" is just too much. I'm sure my outlook would be different if I lived in D-Town, K-Zoo or GR.. but I don't, so life sucks major donky poofs..

I'm waiting on her to get an offer from TLC for yet another crappy show about families that have an excessive amount of offspring. This is not normal. Already having 6 kids, unknown employment, whatever else about her personal situation - any doc in their right mind shouldn't have allowed this to happen.Personally, with as screwed up as this world, how it is overpopulated, and seeing how we've destroyed the planet, I just don't think bringing that many kids into the world is a good idea.

Everyone's dumping on mom here, but what about the doctors who oversaw this? They monitor these sort of pregnancies, and could have managed this.

Judging by the fact that she loves kids I doubt she'd be down for an abortion of some type or anything.

I'm sure that they review her background, physical and mental health, finances, etc as with many major medical procedures. Based on that information, they should have turned her away.

So she's on disability and gets $490 a month in food stamps... BUT she says she's not on welfare because payments made for people to help them isn't welfare! Quote »"In her view these are just payments made for people with legitimate needs and are not, in her view, welfare," Furtney said.
