Dept of Justice vehicle data base

Post by KNINE »

I saw this story on ABC news. Can you believe the airbags were replaced by newspaper? Click on the link in the article to find the vehicle data base. I'm glad to see Virginia is a participating state. http://abcnews.go.com/Travel/s...age=1

Yeah, they stuff all kinds of crap in there - paper, rags, beer cans, even just cramming the old air bag with blood all over it back in there. Do a little bit of vinyl repair, and slimeballs even sell a module that makes the air bag light function as if there's not a thing wrong with the system... It lights steady or flashes when it's doing its self test at ignition on then goes out, whatever the light would do on that particular car if everything was a-ok. If you don't pay enough attention, or if they were too good at covering their tracks, you'd never suspect a thing,.Almost makes me a little uneasy of buying a used car these days. Especially since not all wrecks get reported.

Why is this database accessed via a third party and why should you have to pay a fee to get a report? Please tell me the US government isn't paying these guys. The USA is making money off collecting the data and selling it, right? Right?

Yea, I wondering about that too. You would think that kind of information would be free. I thought it might be helppfl to anybody here in the market for a used vehicle.

tis becoming quite an issue. Here, this one has pictures! The article mentions getting ripped off at the repair shop too - they're charging the insurance company for new air bags and just pocket the money instead of replacing them.http://www.npr.org/templates/s...04121

Thanks K-Nine for posting this and making people aware of this problem. Living in a border state with Mexico we see this type of thing in every thing that goes on here. The Mexican government has pretty much collapsed/on the take, and the US is getting some of the worst of the worst from that country pouring over our borders. What really makes it sad is that there are some very nice illegals mixed in/up with the really bad ones.We need the fence built, so we can enforce our border/laws just like every other country in the world including Mexico.
