Fake warranty calls

I got a call tonight concerning my car warranty. So I asked the gentleman which car as i have 2. He couldn't answer if he was working for Gm or Dodge.So red flags went up and i insisted that if he couldn't tell me what car it was for how would i know how to answer the questions correctly. He went on saying that my warranty is in jeopardy for being voided and i informed him of my line of work and he was quick to tell me to have a nice day. the number is 310-599-9117PS I might have lied and told him i was a cop haha

The number traces back to Los Angeles. Yet doing a quick google search and finding this site shows that a lot of Canadians are getting calls from these people. I like the comment from the guy who says he doesn't own anything newer than a 1971 motorcycle, what are these bozos trying to warranty? Found an article about the problem in Canada here.There was a recent thread on the Hyundai board I visit about this also, they're getting the same crap from these people.Fricken scammers..

i think it's a spam or some sort of annoying sales call or whatever.i've been getting a call at least once a day on my cell phone for the past week. message tells me that this is the second warning that my vehicle's waranty will be expiring blah blah blah...i tried to talk to a live person but just gets disconnected...called number back and it's an invalid number. i think it's a spam and it's really annoying me...getting this call at my work phone number too lol

Yes, spam, scam, whatever. I get them at work, my mom used to get them too. She used to freak out and call me right away but I told her just hang up on it. It's a recording that starts off "your automobile warranty is about to expire" Just like those fake "warranty coverage" things I get in the mail. They try to make it legit, but it's all fake fake fake!

I got one of those calls from the same number. They left a message on my answering machine. They said my warranty was in jeopardy etc.. Funny thing is the warranty expired 2+years ago

When I first heard the automated msg i was in fiery because of all the pushing GM is doing to get you to do the servicing at the dealer. But it was just a scuzzy telemarketer and not the scuzzy dealer

My little sister told me she's been getting the notices since she was 13, she just inherited my 1992 S-10 with 230k miles on it, I wonder how long ago the warranty expired on that...

It's a scam, it's the same people that call about lowering the interest rates on your credit cards..These groups have also come under a lot of fire for violating the do not call laws, and when the Feds do occasionally find them, they go after them.You'll notice they're always the same, and you have to press 1 to speak to an agent.Having worked for call center companies, I can tell you that the cost of the call for them when a human is not involved, i.e. you just slam the phone down, is almost nil, if you want to cost them money, chose the option that says "talk to an agent"That's when I have fun, put on the best "helpless me" hat, and say "ohmigawd, my warranty is about to expire? I can't have that, let me get my credit card.." rustles around on speaker phone for a few minutes, uttering things like "nope, expired, nope, hubbys, nope, overdrawn.." then finally say "ok I have my card, which car would you like me to pay this for?"They'll hem and haw since they really have no idea what kind of vehicles you own, and I'll try again "this really worries me, I want to take care of it now, which car is it for again?" and they can't tell you, and I say "I'm so sorry, you'll have to have my husband talk to you, what number can we call you back at?" and that's the point they hang up.I do the same thing for "lower your credit card interest rate" calls. If they're getting their time wasted, they'll eventually go out of business.Diane

A guy came into my work yesterday (the bank) and changed all of his accounts because he got hit with this scam. I don't know how he would have thought there was a relation between his warranty and the need for his bank account number...but I guess I didn't hear the convo

I get the same calls and letters in the mail. I just bought a new car with a 100k warranty, and they're telling me my warranty is about to expire? Give me a break.

They got my cell phone number too, probably from the car dealer. Kept leaving a mssg and saying it was my 2nd warning. Would stop and start up again periodically for about 2 years. I finally answered one time when they were calling and they wouldn't say what car they were calling about (we own 3). The last car I bought was the 2004 Vibe and it is more than 30K miles past warranty.I told them no. Haven't heard back; this last call was about 2 months ago.The worst part is they were given my number, probably from the dealer. At least that's been my assumption since I only have a cell phone and guard the number religiously. I've gotten no other spam calls in years.

Legal action by the federal or state government authorities against companies that send you unsolicited faxes or call you on a number you have placed on the "do not call list" is minimal at best. Congress and the State legislatures pass these laws but then there is no money to enforce them. Actually enforcement could pay for itself with fines but I am told that the fines go into a general pot rather than being used to fund the enforcement activities. It seems to me that asking to be removed from someone's fax list is like asking to be removed from a spam email list. You just confirm that the fax number is real and you get even more.

At some point I may want to buy an extended warranty for my '09 as it has a lot of expensive to repair stuff like ABS brakes and stability control but of course I would not buy it from someone who calls me on the phone. I thought about buying the GM warranty when I got the car but what if it is totalled before the 3 year period - I doubt that this would be part of any insurance adjustment.. Then there is the issue of GM bankruptcy that might affect their extended warranty policies.

Im scrolling through here, and i see at the bottom, http://www.autowarrantyfinder.com web banner... kinda ironic, but funny, i thought I used to get mailers from Dealer services all of the time, and considering i have GM's extended warranty on my car, i dont really need anything from an outside company. and yes i think they get the info from the dealers.

i'm getting calls from dish network or something now with their advertisments and stuff. kind of like those warranty calls, press one to speak to a rep or press two to be removed from list or whatever. this is getting really annoying =/

Tell them instead that you're a clerk at the State Attorney General's office and you'll walk over to the consumer division tomorrow morning. Legal, and equally effective.
