Car randomly shuts off, help!

Post by wyatt89 »

So I noticed this the other day, and it's happened to me twice so far. When I'm coming down from highway speeds (50-70) and I take the car out of gear and brake, the rpms will jump from 1k to about 1.7k then go back to normal then it will will just die for some reason...other than that it runs perfectly fine and it just hit 50k miles today. It's an '04 GT with a sri if that helps. Anyone had this happen or know what it is?

I'll clean the maf, but where is the IAC? I'm sure it's never been cleaned in the life of the car. Do you by chance have a picture?

let me know if this link doesn't work for you.Just so you know the iac is the idle air control valve. if it's all built up with carbon, it can't regulate the idle correctly and cause your stalling issue because it's all covered in carbon. If you do remove the IAC valve. first disconnect the negative battery cable.i believe it's a t-15 or t-20 bit to remove the valve. Try not to move the position of the valve when cleaning it.when you put it back in the car. Do the following procedure or you could ruin the valve.mount the valve. connect the battery cable. turn the key to ignition on. (DO NOT START) leave in that position for 20seconds. Turn off the ignition. Count 15-20secondsThen turn the key and start the car. You are doing this just in case the valve is not in the correct location. You are giving the valve time to reset it self before you try and start the car.http://www.autozone.com/shoppi...97981the 2zz should be in about the same location. the 2zz info is twards the bottom of the pageExploded view of throttle body and components(1) Throttle body assembly(2) Air inlet duct (3) 2 coolant hoses (4) Throttle position (TP) sensor connector (5) Electrical connector of the idle air control (IAC) valve(6) Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) breather hose (6).

Why do you take it out of gear? Injector cleaner in the gas for a tank could help

And I do that because brakes are cheaper than a clutch I'm going to clean all that stuff soon but it's supposed to ice over tomorrow and texas drivers+ice=disaster.
