2009 Vibe REAR-ENDED

Post by instantnoodle »

Hey guys,I just got rear-ended on the highway (at low speed). My bumper was wrecked so did the metal shield under. The total repair was $4138, at the cost of the other party's insurance company of course. I sent in for repair at a local GM dealer bodyshop. The job's done but the problem is that I'm not happy with it at all. There are scratches on the bumper, there's a particle stuck under the paint, the paint grains are incredibly uneven and doesn't fit with the rest of the car, AND the new OEM bumber isn't even properly aligned with the rest of the car.For a $4000+ job, I'd expect a little more.I plan to take it back to the bodyshop and have them correct the defects. Knowing the car will never go back to the way it was before, I'm now seeking for diminished value settlements for my 3-months-old car. How should I proceed?Where should I go for such evaluation? Thanks in advance.

you cant expect an answer that soon. this isnt instant messenger. wait until you get an answer. anyways you should be holding this crappy place accountable, not seeking settlement. make the shop make it right. and sue the douche that rearended you for whiplash.

Did your insurance not cover this? And 4 grand sounds way over priced. Getting a new bumper and the metal shield are definitely not that expensive...

any GOOD body shop will warranty their work for life. Also because it's financed the bank needs to sign off on the work as well.Talk with the body shop first. Then talk with the finance company as to your dis-satisfaction.plastic bumpers will almost NEVER look exactly the same as the rest of the car.just a friendly FYI.. muti post on the very same topic is no way to get an answer faster, it will only cause name calling like a post (removed)... LOL This forum isn't an instant noodle. LOL

Damage was in the $7-8000 range. But it doesn't show up on Carfax either...The body shop needs to fix it, and most will. No insurance company will let a body shop get away with that... Since they are paying for it, let the insurance company know you are not happy with it.When my father hit a deer in his Mazda 3 the car was repaired by a Mazda dealer. The first time we went to get it, he refused to take it. Nothing was lined up properly, panel gaps were off, and aftermarket parts that didn't even fit were used. The insurance company did not cover the second week of rental or the work that needed to be done once they went and looked at it - they said it should have been fixed right the first time. It went back a third time for a power steering motor (electric steering) and they only covered the part since it should have been caught when it was in. It now needs to go back for a windshield washer bottle that was obviously cracked in the accident. First time he put fluid in it, ran right out. Some body shops can't get anything right...As far as your diminished value, I doubt many of us are lawyers. There are probably better places to look for that info...

This is between your insurance company and the body shop. That is where you being. You HAD the right to refuse to pick up your vehicle. Always inspect it before you sign the paper work. More than likely is the body shop has already been payed. Contact the insurance company and tell them you request them to hold payment until the vehicle is fixed properly. As for compensation, will more than likely will not happen unless you were injured which resulted you in losing time, your job, or etc. Consulting a lawyer at this time would be best.

That sounds expensive. I have a bumper replaced and my hatch fixed after a rear end where the guy hit me doing 40+ while I was almost stopped. He was on his brakes so hard he went under the car and I had to also get a new shield and new exhaust system.

Take lots of pictures. If they don't fix the car, file a small claims case and a consumer complaint with your State's Attorney General's office.

The more large plastic parts that goes onto these vehical will most definitly send the price soaring... IIRC a Pontiac Transport vans rear bumper is in the neighborhood of 600$... retarded..

I got sideswiped and both passenger doors were destroyed. The car was not structurally damaged at all, so we had to get both door replaced, and the whole passenger side repainted(blended in the front and rear quarter panels). The total cost was about $4500. The bank was not involved at all.Luckily the shop I used had a great reputation and the did an excellent job--you absolutely cannot tell it was ever in an accident--and they have a lifetime warranty if any issues develop. I did have to take it back once after i picked it up as the front passenger door was closing to far compared to the back one...but they fixed this while I waited. To the OP, your beef is with the body shop. The insurance company paid for the damage at the shop you chose--they have done their due diligence. Take your car back to the shop and demand that it be fixed correctly. Good luck!
