I'm a New Member

Post by 03VibeOttawa »

Hey GVC’ers!I’m a new member here, though I’ve been doing my share of visiting on and off over the past few years. Cheers to the moderators, who’ve in the past year or so virtually cleaned up all the postings/people/faux pas that used to annoy me and make me hesitate joining.I could happily write an essay on my satisfying Vibe relationship, but I’ll try and summarize.I’m from Ottawa, Ontario. I have an ’03 base Vibe 5spd Salsa two tone, which I purchased in late ’05. I bought it from a family friend b/c it was meticulously maintained, and was used for 90% highway driving. Since I bought it, it’s been more like 90% urban driving. (90% stop-and-go the past 6 weeks due to the Ottawa transit strike), I’ve changed the oil every I’m almost at 140,000 kms, and so far the car has proven great value. I’ve only replaced one bulb (front head), and I just replaced the clutch at 128k kms. I’ve wanted BADLY to do some more mods, but I’m a working student with debt and expenses, so I’ve had to be patient. Mods so far:-20/30 tint -Fast Wheels “Blade” 17s, with Fuzion ZR1 tires (first set are DONE after 6 months of lead foot driving)-K&N Short Ram Intake-Vanity plate with my high school nicknameMods I’m planning on ordering probably mid-summer ’09 ($ permitting)-Toxico HP Struts with Tein S-Tech Springs, possibly with the Eibach Alighnment Kit-Hotchkiss Suspension Bars (front and rear)-Magnaflow Catback and DC Sports Header-shorter throw shift upgrade at some point?I’ve got some better pics around, but at the moment I don’t have time to shrink or host the somewhere. Here’s a picture from my office window: Peace, Vibers!

Hey guys, thanks for the welcomes, and it's good to hear from some local Vibe owners, Bull77 and Amtron.I live in the Gloucester Centre area, and commute to Westboro every day.Since the transit strike, I also drop off/ pick up my g.f in Hull. As you can imagine, I'm spending 2+- hours in my car to drive only 35+- kms, 5 days a week. The road rage and incompetent drivers I encounter everyday are unbelievable at times.Anybody else got some Ottawa transit strike horror stories?

I really only have to go in rush hour traffic monday morning, and thursday night though. However, on both monday and thursday night it takes me 20 minutes to leave my parking lot...pre-strike it was right out....Secondly, not affecting me, but my old high school is chaning their schedule around now: everyone who takes the OC is now to take a yellow bus that comes around AFTER picking up and dropping off the normal yellow bus students. This means that they miss the first class EVERY DAY. The school board wanted to put out more buses, but the OC threatened to picket them if they did. They sound like some sort of regime...anyways to make up for students missing their classes, the school made a 2 day schedule where the 1st and 2nd period classes switch around. So one day they miss one, and the other day they miss the other. This really bothers me. This means less class time and more potential for failure. It not only screws up their high school marks, but that directly affects their post-secondary education because their marks can be brought down. Then that directly affects the jobs they can have in the future. So basically it screws with their whole life. Pisses me off that people can be so selfish and ruin soooo many peoples lives, you know?I don't know if anyone can help me out with this number, but I believe it's something like 2000-3000 people have lost their jobs because of the strike and not being able to get to work. Congradufreakinlations OC transpo, you officially know how to ruin a city. All I can say coming out of this is that the first day the buses get running again, I want to sit in the front seat by the driver...and just watch...
