guy cars vs. chick cars

Post by bodhi_tree777 »

was just sitting in my vibe, listening to Car Talk on my lunch break. They were discussing guy cars vs. chick cars, meaning cars that exude a very specific sexuality. No surprises really, the top 3 on either side:Guy cars:1) Mustang2) Corvette3) CamaroChick cars:1) VW New Beetle2) VW Cabriolet3) Mazda Miatagot me thinking, though, do you think of the vibe more as a guy car or a chick car? Does it have a sexuality? Or is it just sexy? What are some other distinctly gender specific cars? discuss..

Hahaha. Chick car: Ford Probe. I've never met a guy that owned one of those.I think the Vibe is gender neutral. Like a Volvo. At the risk of stereotyping, I'd say most sports/exotics are guy cars. I don't know any females who had pics of Ferraris or Porsches hanging up in their room as a kid. I'm sure there's the exception of course. And while I actually like the miata's, your top 3 reminded me of this:

i had posters of porsches and bmws.... I love sports cars. Trucks are ok too. And though the miata is a good autox car, it's still a chick car, no matter what you do to it. sorry.

That's why I can't listen to talk radio...I'd be yelling at the radio. I have never seen anything but a middle age balding guy in a miata. As for the beetle, um nooooooooo. And watch it, I had a Countach poster...right next to the penguins and puppies LOL

I actually tried on a Miata last spring, unfortunately I don't fit in it. I do fit in a Boxster, but I can't bring myself to spend $50K on a car. Story of my life, when I was 20 I really wanted a Fiat 124 Spider, but they were like $5,500, too rich for me at the time. The chick car stereotypes probably don't work well for you and Hope and other female members of online car forums, otherwise you wouldn't be on a car forum in the first place!

I've known of guys that have driven the "chick cars" before - Probes, Miatas, etc... Might as well throw in that cutsie mid 90's Celica too. I always had an attraction to the '97-'99 Tiburons too. lol!Me - I like non-manly cars! Lord knows my Hyundai Accent has not a macho bolt in its body. And less personality than a refrigerator - that's my kind of car. Not sure why the high performance macho cars never really did anything for me.

Lets see:Chick Cars:Miata, Solstice, Beetle, Mini convertible, Miata, scion xA, scion tC, VW Jetta, Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, 2000+ Ford Mustang, Nissan Z cars, last model Celica, pretty much any new Mercedes or Volvo (despite my having owned a volvo).Guy Cars:1/4 ton pickups and higher, Camry, new "retro" muscle cars - includes Challenger and Charger (not mustang) - anything with a wing higher than the roof of the car (although its a different kind of guy), pretty much any Audi, 3 series BMW (see the wing comment). Most others are gender neutral but are automatic age indicators. The Vibe falls into this category. Despite the membership of this board, I'd say the Vibe indicates an older crowd. And I think that Mini-vans are more guy cars than chick cars, despite what Kevzaz says. And I think that hybrids are pretty gender neutral.I'll add the disclaimer that my decisions are influenced by the greater Phoenix metro area, including the Scottsdale area.

I have always maintained that the MIATA is a sports car......and thus a guy car...saying the MIATA is a chick car is saying any MG or AC (or any other British sports car fromthat era) is a chick car....the argument is dead to me...

Here in OKC it (Vibe) seems gender neutral...but very popular with the 55-70 year old crowd. I'm not kidding......a sort of fountain of youth or whatever.
