For those who have access to a service manual, can you find/scan and post directions for replacing one? Thanks!

I couldn't find step by step instructions, all I could find was this diagram showing the location of the part. If I had to guess a procedure, it would be something like remove a few of those splash guards under the engine, disconnect the connector, remove the one bolt and pull the sensor out of the engine. But there may be more to it than that, I don't knowThis pic is for the 2ZZ engine in the 1st gen GT's
Thanks!Knowing where to look helps a bunch. I was worried I might have had to remove pulleys or something to access it.Doesn't look too bad. Hopefully this will solve my problem. I should get the sensor this week, but probably won't have time to do anything till the weekend.

Just out of curiosity, are sure its a crankshaft positioning sensor that went out? If your cars timing is out, you will have the same code thrown and there are a lot of sensors that will throw your timing out. I had this exact same error on my 97 Saturn SC2, and it ended up being the engine temperature sensor. On the vibe the little canister looking thing on the front to the left also plays into timing, and when I broke mine, it also threw the same error.Just something to think about.
Well I don't have alot to go on. I parked my car for a week at a parking lot by the airport and when I got back it refused to start. The starter engages fine and I have plenty of battery power, but the engine refused to start up. I thought maybe a week in the cold may have something to do with it, though I've parked it in colder temps without issue in the past.I had it towed back home and still the same. Finally it threw a CEL during an attempt to start it and pulled the code as P0335 , crank shaft position sensor circuit.I talked to a service adviser at a Toyota dealership and he suggested I replace the sensor. So that's where I'm at for the time being.

What EXACTLY does it sound like when trying to start? Does it sound normal(cranking) or does it sound like there is little engine resistance (more like a whirr)? The reason why I'm asking is when i blew my engine by having the crank pulley walk off and spun the timing chain gear on the crankshaft, i had the same error, but the car did not "crank", it spun with what sounded like less resistance.....that being said, all those parts are metal, so I doubt that you blew your engine, but its worth asking.
Sounds like normal cranking, it just doesn't fire up. I figure no spark and or fuel is being supplied. Maybe because there's no signal on the location of the crank and the ecu is confused?

Might want to test it first. From the manual...Quote »Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. RESISTANCE: 1630 to 2740Ohms at cold 2065 to 3225Ohms at hot NOTE: Cold and Hot mean the temperature of the coils themselves. Cold is from -10 °C (14 °F) to 50 °C (122 °F) and Hot is from 50 °C (122 °F) to 100 °C (212 °F) . HINT: If the resistance is not as specified, replace the crankshaft position sensor.

I haven't heard back from the Toyota dealer about the sensor, however I decided to try to start my car up and it fired up! I've driven it a few times in the last week and everything seems fine. Now I'm wondering if it was a moisture problem and maybe when I parked it in the sub-zero temps for a week water in the fuel system froze up.I'll have to get some gas line anti freeze in case this happens again to verify this theory.

I wouldn't have expected any fuel issue to have thrown that code. Also possible that condensation in a sensor froze and caused a temporary problem.Good to hear that the car's running again - hope it stays that way.
Well it didn't throw the code until after I removed the fuses for the ecu to inspect it. Maybe that had something to do with the error as I couldn't get one to show before that.
