HID dims after startup

Noticed this yesterday. I turned them on, started up fine and bright. Then the right one started to dim. I have a 6K kit and the passenger side lamp goes to a dull almost orange color.I am thinking it is either the ballast or the bulb. I figured I could test it by taking the good bulb from the drivers side and plugging it into the passenger. If it starts up and is fine it would be the bulb. If it dims, I would think ballast. Sound good?

yes that is probably the best way to test if you dont have spare parts around... hmm dims.. yeah maybe ballast isnt firing up and staying up properly.....oh yeah dont touch the bulbs with fingers

Check your grounds they could have become rusted. Then swap bulbs from one side to the other if you get the same results on the other side then yea bulbs are the issue.If not, and the other bulb dims as well could be the ballast but i would check your connections to see if they are corroded or rusted.

I pulled the bulb and it has a dark area in part of it with some sediment looking stuff. So the bulb is shot.Instead of driving around with a p'diddle for a week I pulled out the system and went back to my HIRs. I may throw them in again when it gets warmer, we shall see.
