Anybody else holding off buying right now?

Post by Houston »

I've been wanting to get a new Vibe, but am holding off because of all the turmoil within the automobile industry. Like millions of others, I'm concerned about dealing with warranty problems with a company that might go bankrupt. I am also interested in seeing what wonderful cars may be made available by GM during the next year or so.Your thoughts?

If you can wait theres the new hybrid's or electric cars which may suit your needs ie. the volt and fords ev car. which are hybrid ev cars. Otherwise we got some good deals on vibes right now. 18k for a new awd 09.

Nope. I bought in November. Got an amazing deal - both on the trade and thew new car price. My 2004 Vibe pulled in $8000 in trade at a dealer. That was almost half what I paid for it 5 years ago. That was on top of the incentives which brought the car down to wholesale level. I got a 3.9% loan from my Credit Union (CU) on the portion I financed. I could tell the finance guy at the dealer was really PO'ed that I didn't finance it there. He spent literally, 15 minutes trying to explain to me that "A couple of percent difference (in his rates vs. my CU) only adds up to "a couple 'a hundred dollars, at most"I dunno about you, but I'll take "a couple 'a hundred dollars." (I'm guessing his commission on the loan is "a couple 'a hundred dollars")

I can wait. My '03 has less than 25,000 miles on it and has always run perfectly. It's just that, well, I'd like a new one. With the government applying so much pressure, I tend to think the automakers are speeding up their programs for bringing super-efficient cars to market sooner than originally planned, that we're likely to see a Vibe with even better millage real soon.

Houston, try to sell your car first before you trade it in. with such low miles, I can't imagine someone in the private market wouldn't be interested in a low mileage 03!

If they're heavier, than, yeah, it's likely the mileage may have dropped. I noticed that the new ones are much, much quieter and have less road noise. Sound dampaning material is pretty heavy and adds a lot of weight. Typically it's a sheet-melt material, a dense rubbery compound on an aluminum sheet that's stuck to the insides of the car body and in the floor and firewall. ( did I mention I know lots of people who work in the auto indusry?

I'm holding off...because as the economy gets worse and cars aren't moving prices should come down. The only way I'd replace my 03 Vibe with a new 09 is if it was a GXP edition.

We actually aren't planning on looking for a different car for another two years. (when the Vibe is paid off). Then, we're looking for a replacment for our 2000 Neon. So, nope, the current economy hasn't affected our plans on buying a new car.

I just bought a new one in April, and I am totally satisfied with it.I was at the dealershio the other day and I sat in an 09 and did not like not being able to see behind the driver side. For me that is the worst place, and I have already backed into things(not with the new vibe) twice before, and thats when I could see.I hope on future models they will change that.I plan on keeping my car for 20 years, and the way I drive it will only have 160.000 miles by then!

I wouldn't worry about warranty issues. GM is simply too big to go away, if they do go Chapter 11 it will reorganize and operations will continue in the mean time.

I just got an 09 2.4L 5 speed with fogs, AC, and cruise. Its a lil over 4000lbs.

The 2 mpg reduction is due to a change in the EPA rating criteria.A 1.8L is about 2,900 lbs. I do not know what you could do other than to carry 5 - 200 lb people to make a Vibe 4,000 lbs. My 2007 swb T&C is 3,988 lbs.
