Hi all,I bought a Vibe 09 1sc almost a month ago. Unfortunately, somebody broke into the car on Christmas and stole an Ipod nano, which I don't care that much. However, he/she had smashed the driver side window so that I had to get it fixed. The thing that bothers me the most is... It seemed like the alarm didn't go off at all. When the doors get locked, a red light starts blinking. But, it does not seem to arm the car automatically. To test the alarm system, I left a window open a half and locked all doors. After a minute or two, I tried to open the driver side door from inside through the half closed window. The alarm did not go off. WTH? I also have tried to open a door with my key without disarming the system with my remote key. Is the blinking red right a fake? or Do I have a malfunctioning alarm system? I am totally confused. Doesn't 1SC come with no-alarm system at all except the stupid red button on a remote key? May be I'm too dumb to understand what the alarm system means.Could anybody help me to figure this out please? Thank you very much in advance.Linus
The 09 1SC does not come standard with an alarm system. I think the red light is associated with the airbags indicators. The red button on your remote is the panic button; press it and the car will start yelling like a regular alarm but it's not an alarm system. Other than old people trying to find their car in a parking lot, I rarely see people using this feature on any car.

Factory installed content theft systems will have a security button that looks like this picture. The immobilizer is a standard feature on the vibe. Look on page 2-9 of the owners manual for a description of the systems.
As an owner of a 2009 Vibe GT I knew mine came with the keyless remote BUT no alarm/security package from the factory. I would think this could be an easy "add on" from a dealer for a couple hundred $$$. Seeing how we already have the RKE remotes, it should be easy. Any ideas out there? FYI.. your photo of the lower left dash is MUCH more detailed than what is shown on pages 2-9 through 2-11 of the owners manual. What a joke !!! The only mention of any such indicator is letter "J" on page 4-2,4-3 which merely tells you go go to page 2-10 and gets you nowhere !!!
Quote, originally posted by trask » ...The immobilizer is a standard feature on the vibe...Not standard on my 09 base Vibe. I proved it by having a plain old metal key cut. Left the remote in the house and the metal key unlocks, starts, and operates the car just fine.My locksmith told me that the Vibes do not have an immobilizer. He said he believes it is because it uses a Toyota ignition and if it had the immobilizer all the GM dealers would have to buy Toyota computer systems in order to program them.Someone else posted that the immobilizer is standard in Canada because it is required by law. I don't know, may be.

OK probably wrong on the immobilizer. I was looked at the "Getting to know your 2009 Vibe Booklet" and it only mentions the content theft security feature, and nothing about an immobilizer system, maybe the Canadian booklet mentions an immobilizer system. Very confusing.
Here's the window detail label that was on the window of My Vibe when I was buying it!As I said, all Canadian Vibes have an immobilizer.... and that's imperial not US mpg on the energuide label!
