Hi all, I noticed a small clink on take off recently. When the driveline is engaged from a dead stop, it makes a small noise. I figured it was possible a cv joint was going slack.I've read the posts on the "lower ball joint grease injection" remedy, but I crawled under the car today, and checked the linkage, etc. and the ball joints are good, tierods, etc. boots are full of grease. When turning the wheels by hand: in neutral, park, drive: there is a discernable bit of play between the cv joints and the transmission, maybe 5/16" travel when twisting and I believe this is the cause of the noise.Does anyone know how much play the cv-trans-interface is supposed to have in twisting? And is anyone else noticing/diagnosing this. Also, does the front wheel drive model have a transfer case separate from the transmission? I had an old corolla that had it that way. Thanks!
no takers?tell me no one here has ever spun their tires while the car was up in the air? I just want to know if the previous owner rocked it out of the snow too much.
A little play when rotating the wheel by hand on an open diff front wheel drive vehicle is normal. I would look towards motor mounts and front suspension for your noise.
