In Detroit, we're getting hammered right now. I got up at 5:00 to blow the snow before I left for work but it hadn't started yet. As I was leaving it was starting to come down strong and it is still coming. The office here is pretty empty. I can't wait to go home and see how the AWD handles it. I've driving it many times in regular snow but not in real deep snow.White Christmas ahead.mike

wow just went outside at work and we are WELL on our way to that 12 inches. holy cow. Im glad i sprung the xtra cash and went for the awd instead of the base
It's just starting here. We're supposed to get 10-16" by tonight. My back is still sore from cutting up and stacking the tree that came down last week, now I have to snowblow and shovel. At least I'll have a little fun later tonight when I take the sled out for a spin.
We got some rain from that storm and wind gusts up to 54 mph... and a new record high of 69 degrees. Meanwhile, a couple hundred miles to the north they got buried in snow.

Had to shovel/salt 2 driveways. Shoulders and neck are a bit sore, not to mention I work up this morning with an eye infection; good ole pink eye.But I do have to say, the re-heated Thai Food from last night was excellent!By the way, 12" inches here and more to come Saturday Night/Sunday morning!Quote, originally posted by Sputnik »For once this storm is missing Ottawa, but I guess Toronto got hammered with it. Yay!! I hate snow.Hate snow? Isn't that like hating hockey? Oh, do I miss the warm beaver tails. Have you had any this year?

No you can hate snow and like hockey - hockey's on ice. I don't mind cold weather, I just hate snow. No beavertails this year. I usually have some in Feb on the canal for winterlude.

yeah mid 60's in Indiana today, rain, I guess chance of some nasty wind. I'm looking forward to a little snow, sick of this Ice we've been getting the last week or so. Can't get a good test of the AWD on ice.
Currently there are wind gusts up to 50 miles/hour and a few family members have called regarding if we have power or not as the lights have been flicking at their house.Issue at hand is that if the power goes out, with all the snow melting, the ground is saturated, the basements will flood as the sump pumps will not run on magic.

So I put the 18's on the car on Saturday (couldn't let me neighbor 1 up me) and sure enough we got snow/ice last night... My car make SUCK in snow / ice but dammit it looks nice.
I don't miss my 03 Vibe GT in the snow... LOLit did ok with good studded snow tires, but not fantastic. I will never go back to a 2WD/FWD car for the winter ever again.
Quote, originally posted by zathrak »How does the vibe handle in this type of weather anyhow? I'm in SW Michigan and about ready to get an 09 GT FWD...any words of Vibish wisdom?if you are on the stock tires, horribly. get some winter tires. blizzaks are great. i have them on my car currently. but because they are winter only you will need a 2nd set for summer. other than that i find my vibe slips a bit when coming to a stop or a start but it isn't that much. mostly cause it's a light car, but the tires really help a ton. i noticed a huge difference as soon as i put the blizzaks on.
I have the Vibe AWD for 2009 and it is fantastic in deep snow, it seems to go straight without slipping to the left or right. In the snow belt it is worth the extra money.
Glad to see some West Michiganders in Vibes talking snow. I'm considering buying an 09 AWD to replace my Pathfinder 4x4 with 31" BFGs. The Pathy is great in snow, but only gets 15mpg year round. Considering cashing in the clunker to get a Vibe AWD. Seems like it'd suit our family well. The sales guy at the Pontiac dealer said the AWD system sends 80% of the torque to the front and 20% to the rear. Can anyone confirm this? I'd prefer something closer to 50/50 given that our rural neighborhood rarely gets plowed, and frequently has 12" on the ground and 2-3 foot drifts to break through. Snow tires are definitely in order.Has anyone REEEEEALLY tested their AWD in the deep stuff? How does it do?
i believe it's 70/30. I don't know what you consider deep stuff.I have driven my awd in 12" of snow the first year I got it with the crappy goodyear rsa all season tires. I didn't get stuck but the awd was working OT lolSince then I have gotten snow tires for it and haven't had a large snow fall to really test it. We seem to get more ice these days.

thanks, keith. 70/30 sounds a little better. 12" is pretty deep, and pretty typical of what we get in MI. glad to hear you made it through.anyone else?
