...And then there were two. Think they'll open back up? No money coming in from sales, no way to pay the bills. Does not look good.Ford here has people off until March or something, not sure if that's everybody or just certain workers. Either way, not good.Welcome to the depression, folks!

I keep finding articles mentioning dipping into state's unemployment to help pay their wages: http://money.cnn.com/2008/12/1...21720Quote »They will be paid during the time off through a combination of state unemployment benefits and Chrysler contributions, but they will not receive the full amount of their working pay, a Chrysler spokesman said.Good thing they don't have any plants in Indiana, our unemployment funds have pretty much all dried up! (edit: oops, i see they have a transmission plant in Kokomo.) A lot of states are running out of money to pay people for unemployment. We're so screwed.

No wonder the big three are going broke.Don't forget that most of that 95% is standard unemployment insurance that anyone can apply for if they have paid into it. The company adds the rest to get to 95% total. Around here I think it is 65%/30% split but I could be off.GM is also idling most of their plants for six weeks starting in January. Not good, not good at all.

IMHO the banking industry is mostly to blame for this disaster. the $700 Billion gift to the banks was supposed to keep our economy going. Congress blew it by not having any oversight, so our tax dollars are not doing the job they were supposed to do. Nobody can get loans to buy cars which is hurting all auto OEMs right now.
Maybe this is an eye opener for those on this board who were fighting to keep the big 3 from getting the loans. Those people (you know who you are) make me sick. The situation is ridiculous, and was preventable. Thanks guys.

UAW the main problem no. There is no main problem, it is a big conjoined issue between the 3 and the UAW and the economy going to ****. I can't entirely blame the 3 for making the trucks and SUVs like they did.Think about it. If your store was making ridiculous cash on selling a product, why would you change? The guy across the street is selling a similar product and doing ok, but your brand is owning the segment. So why change it? People wanted your product. The gas price hike was way to hard to predict, it was thought of and theorized but nobody thought of it till it became a reality. You can't prepare for situations like this, that is just impossible and nobody would endure any kind of growth if they spent their good times planning for such a catastrophic fallout.
mehMy stance remains unchanged. It remains my opinion that the union is simply an unsustainable concept in today's economy. My different opinion only solidifies the fact that we are both citizensof this country with the best future in mind. My opinion for the best future might differ from yours, but that doesnt mean I'm to be hated on for that.
