2009 Car Order taking for EVER

Post by Y2KR1 »

Hey group,I am in Canada, I ordered a Vibe in early September and it still isn't in . The dealer could not find me anything close to what we wanted so we put in an order. The dealer has been cool, I have had a new G6 loaner car at no cost to me since 12 weeks from the order date.I ordered a 1SC, White, Maunal Trans, 2.4L and Roof racks.

Yep, I put my order in late August. With the GM employee pricing ending the last days of September, my dealer found me one that matched pretty close to what I wanted on the next to last day. Later found out that the factory never issued a VIN number for the one I ordered. That is one of the first things that is done. I believe they stick it on a stickyback paper while the car chugs down the assembly line. Find out if your dealer has received a VIN number that they can charge to their books. If they don't have one, you may be waiting for a car that isn't coming.

You need to ask the dealer for the order number. Also ask if he ordered it as a sold order. Dealers receive an allocation for models. He may have just ordered it as an allocated model. The VIN is assigned during the manufacturing. They should be able to see a status in their system.

The dealer informed me the vehicle was excepted into production on Nov. 24/08. As far as I know they placed this as a Sold order. I had to sign a form that they planned to send to the district Sales Manager at Pontiac/GM.

Sluggish economy = sluggish production? You would think they would get right to building it quick if it meant that GM had made the sale. I've heard rumors that the might need the cash. Maybe they aren't as desperate as they make it seem. At least they loaned you a nice car! Did the mention a delivery date?

That's crazy, we ordered ours on Aug 28th and took delivery on Nov 1st! Our dealer (Essex) had confirmation for when the vibe was scheduled in production (week of Oct 6th) by mid Sept.

I ordered my car on Sept 29 and it hasn't arrived yet. The dealer tells me it was put in as a sold order and their computer says it was shipped November 24 so it should be arriving soon. I'm not sure I could be any further away from the factory and still be in North America (Labrador, Canada) so its not surprising that it's taking this long.I was told it should be in just in time for Christmas!

Thanks for the input. I put a call into the dealer to see if they have any update. I'm sure they would like to get the loaner back and sell me the car.

In the mean time just enjoy that you're putting wear and tear on the dealer's car and not yours.

Hopefully its already built, cuz if its not, its not going to be for almost another month. NUMMI is shut down for an extended holiday shutdown until Jan. 12th. I was walking down the end of the assembly line today looking at the cars that are next to come off the line and thinking damn, just a couple more minutes and these could be shipped, now its going to be almost another month.

Sluggish economy is a double-edged sword. They may have cut production capacity and shut down a shift or two. Hence special orders take longer. Nice that they've given you a loaner!

Even Toyota is shutting down, now. Worldwide. 11 days in Feb and March.

Nice that they've given you a loaner! You could have asked, I would tell ya. But you're correct, production has been cut severely at NUMMI for the indefinite future. After several non-production days in December and January, NUMMI is only building cars (Corolla & Vibe) four days a week in January and February. That will be reduced to three days a week in March and April with an additional full week of non-production in April. Most of these days will be less than eight hour days as there are not enough orders right now to even run that long. Things are even worse on the truck (Tacoma) side. They have been reduced from two shifts to one and five hours a day three days a week.As far as your vehicle orders go, I've got no idea if you haven't gotten them yet. If things were more normal around there, I might be able to check on the status or get the production date bumped up if you have your order number. But with the current state of things, we're just trying to survive...as a lot of people and companies are right now. I remember from the past though when doing this, orders going to Canada seem to take longer to get scheduled for some reason. Hope you get it soon though!!!

We received our car this past Monday. I think it was worth the wait. The 2.4L with Manual is quick and fun to drive. Getting use to the dash mounted shifter still. Lots of room and the seating is comfy.

Man I would have been happy to keep the loaner for a couple years! Who paid the insurance on it?
