Fuel consumption... 2009 Pontiac Vibe 1.8L

Anyone else having very very bad fuel consumption as compared to posted numbers? If so please share.I'm getting somewhere between 9l/100 and 11.5l/100 or in MPG between 20 and 26 mpg. This is all highway driving..

wow, nothing that bad. We have only filled the tank twice. First tank we got 32.5 mpg, second was 30 mpg. This third tank seems like it will be worse but it is all city, short stop and go driving with the engine not even getting up to temp. The first tank was 70/30 hwy/city, second was closer to 50/50 hwy/city.If you have the auto make sure you are in Drive and not 3rd. I really think Toyota needs to rethink the 4-speed auto shifter gate arrangement as it is far too easy to get it in the wrong gear by accident.

Sorry barvibe, I hope it gets better for you. My 1.8 auto (2009) has been getting 29-32 mpg in 90% city driving, and driving the car hard too. Your numbers are way too low, especially if you have a manual tranny.

no .. not in 3rd gear.. If you are getting 30mpg in the city then there is something definitely wrong with my car! I have had it into the shop and all they say is "if there aren't any lights on the dash then there is nothing wrong with the car"

yeah, sorry....... To date, I have gotten 29, 29, 32, 29, 30 mpg with my 1.8 auto in 90% big city suburb driving (and a very lead foot).

I've got the 1.8L w/ the 4 speed auto, I've been getting 31 - 35mpg city driving and 30 - 33 mpg hwy driving. Whats your car's rpms at 60km/h? and 120 km/h?60 should be 1600rpm120 should be 3200rpm

They said my highway mileage should improve as I break my car in more. My highway driving is done @120km/h so if I were to slow to to 100 i'd prob get 36mpg or so.

Driving spirited in city i got 27.... but that was in the summer. winter...no idea i just know it was less.

I'm averaging 7.3 to 7.5l/100km. (manual) Combined city and stop and go highway driving. Only have 3800km on the engine so far. Still keep thinking it my old car and keep shifting up later than I should. This colder weather has increased fuel consumption slightly. Probably could get in back down a little by installing a stove pipe between the exhaust manifold and air box to warm up the intake air.

Sorry dragn88. I'm in the middle of my box of wine and I don't think you want me out on the highway checking my rpms right about now. I have not done a trip yet, so I don't know what my mpg will be on the highway. I just know that my city mileage is much higher than I had hoped. Suddenly I'm glad GM screwed my Maxx and I'm driving the Vibe

WIth the base 1,8 and the auto trannie , I am averaging 7.2- 7.7 in summer 70% hi-way and it's near 9.5 in winter = right now , with the temp , do yoyo between +5 c, and -15 c. With heavy foot ( 120km + speed on the hiway , heavy wind , sub zero temps, it's very normal to get over 10 liter /100 . For you american , divide 282.48 by liter number to get mpg ( in imperial... sorry ,for U.S. gallon result : susbtract 7-8 mpg from the equation ) Example : for 8.5 L/100 , 282.48 divide by 8.5 = 33.24 mpg minus 7 = 26 mpg ( u.s. gal )
