Fog Lamp Replacement?

Post by Siggy »

Passenger side lamp is cracked, tryed repalcing it today but it was damn near impossible.Do i have to take off the front bumper to get the the other tab? I searched for a write or any thing on repalcing the actual lamp and i all i got was that.Am i better off sending it to a shop or a dealer to get it done? I have the lmap already so i dont need to buy that from em' anyways.Thank you.

it's much easier to get the lamp out with the bumper off

I actually replaced my driver side without taking the bumper off. It was VERY tricky, but doable. I'm of the mind if I can avoid taking something off I do. Less to break/lose/have rattle later.

I managed to get my driver side fog lamp (03 base) replaced with bumper on as well. It sucked. Dunno if passenger side is worse or the same though.Don't forget to buy fog lamp protectors from ToolGuy!http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=16180

My wife's 03 failed inspection because the passengers side fog light was missing. We told the bozo that it has been missing for 4 years and has passed inspection; why is it a point of failure now, and what the heck does a fog light have to do with the safe operation of a car when all cars don't come with fog lights??? Bozo! So, I crawled under the bumper with my screw driver, and in a one second, pushed the side plastic pin under the plastic claw, and then had to wrestle with the one on the opposite side. Since the one side was now loose, I then crawled out from under the car, and again, with my trusty screw driver, forcefully pryed the lense from the outside, on the side that still had the plastic pin held by the plastic claw. I then reached under the bumper with my left arm, and pushed in on the plastic pin while forcefully prying the lense from the front. After enough strong arming, it easily popped out. I'm not sure what that screw in the back of the lense was suposed to be doing, but it did not hold up to my screwdriver forcing the housing to pop out once the two side pins were released from their claws. I can only assume that if I did put another housing in there, the two side claws would hold it in place just fine. To my suprise, the bulb was still working when I started the car and turned the fog lights on. I wrapped the light up in some foam pipe insulation and duct taped it to protect it. I then shoved it up underneath so it was not hanging down. I now have an empty hole, and plan on bringing the car back to the inspector. He can't fail me for an empty hole!!!! I have no plans on replacing the fog light, although at this point I can get one for about $40 on line. Even so, that would be $40 wasted on a car not worth spending any money on: 130,000 miles, full of dents and dings, and still chugging along.

My saga continues on the fog light. First some good news. Trask sent me back my check since after his generous offer to send me his unused fog light, the postal service delivered it all smashed to pieces. I guess delivery to the Delta Quadrant is more difficult than I had imagined. Thanks so much for trying Trask. I got your check today. I went to the local glass shop this afternoon. After digging out all the glass and rubber sealant and only cutting my hand once, I took the housing to have them fit a 1/4 inch piece of clear plexiglass that I will caulk on to the housing. The gentleman warned me that the heat buildup may cause my bulbs to burn out faster, but since we use the fog lights so infrequently, it should not be a problem. Again Trask, thanks so much for your kindness. Members of the genvibe family will not soon forget your generousity.

You are welcome caretaker. The container I sent the fog light in was the same box that was mailed to me from ebay, so I figured it would ship ok. I guessed wrong. Anyway I hope it all works out ok.
