I think that this would be the right forum for this post. I'm looking to put a CB radio into my '05 Pontiac Vibe. Has anybody else installed one in their Vibe or Matrix before? I'm wondering what the best location would be for a radio. I haven't purchased the radio yet, so i may get a small one that I can take out when I'm not using it, but I would like one that I could permanently install in my car.
I used to use CB quite a bit but not so much any more. You might do a search for Ametur Radio or Ham radio for location ideas. The unit I used was a self contained portable unit that plugged into the cig lighter. with a mag. mount antenna for the roof.so there wasnt a spot I mounted it but just kept it in easy reach.
One of the members from here I used to roll with all the time has one. On our way to the Ohio Vibe meet a couple years ago we overheard the truck drivers trash talking our Vibes (removed)!!!His screen name was "Shadyvibe". You can do a search of his posts, he's not on here anymore but maybe he's got something from a while ago on the forums. If you get a magnetic antenna PLEASE try to use felt or something on the contact point between the roof and the magnet so as not to scratch your paint
On another car, I mounted an amateur radio to the side of the "transmission bump" before. Worked pretty good. On the passenger side of the storage bin that is under the shifter might work well. Adult passengers knees usually sit about the level of the shifter. Mounting the radio close to the floor should minimize it being kicked. If you can find a small enough unit, mounting on the front of the cup holders between the seats might work too.I put an amateur radio in my 05 Vibe under the drivers seat (the AC power inverter doesn't seem to cause interference). The radio has a small separate control unit that I mounted with velcro tape on the top of the dash next to the drivers side A-pillar. Good luck!
