2.4L Gas Mileage?

Just traded in my 2004 on a new 2009. Decided to upgrade to the 2.4L engine (not the GT) but have noticed my communing mileage dropped from 29.1 to 21.5. Is this normal for a new 2.4L engine?(has about 1,000 miles). What are other people getting? I've checked it over 850 miles, filling up at the same pump at the same station 3 times and filling it to the second click.

do you drive mostly city? that mpg sounds like you're driving mostly city...i do about 55 miles round trip to work and home about 80%hwy/20% city and i'm averaging 27-28 mpg. i have 3500 miles or so.

Well, I'm comparing the same drive in two different cars, my 04 and my 09 Vibes. I'll describe it and you tell me:I drive 15 miles round-trip to work each day. The drive, one-way, consists of 1.5 miles of residential street with 2 lights, then 5 miles on a freeway, then another 3/4 of a mile in the city with 4 lights. Plus, twice per week, I drive 46 miles round trip with about 4 of those being on residential streets and 42 miles being on 55-65 mph interstate. Plus a couple of weekend trips to the mall which is 1 mile to freeway exit 7 miles to mall exit and 1/2 mile from freeway to mall. I thought it was mixed driving. Maybe I'm wrong?

I'm having the same results as lowincash. I drive 120 miles roundtrip daily (I probably win the longest commute award!) - 95% highway.How are you driving on the interstate? I've noticed a huge correlation between MPGs dropping and going over 70 MPH. Basically, if I keep it around 70, I get 27-29 MPGs. Anything over that and it drops exponentially.To me, the gas pedal on this Vibe is very touchy. I was flying off the line at every stop sign and light for the first month until I got used to it. Perhaps that's having an effect?

He says my commute is considered City because the car isn't warmed up. He says Highway means the car is warmed up for at least 90% of the trip. I started a thread about the accelerator in another thread. It's drive-by-wire and not adjustable. My passengers were complaining of getting car sick the first few weeks because I couldn't get used to it. I kept lurching in stop and go traffic.

There is no adjustment except to "reset to factory spec" So, they did a reset. It seems better now but I'm also driving differently.

A tankfull of mostly highway miles got around 27mpg. City driving gets me about 22-23mpg.

I am getting 28MPG to 29MPG on my 2.4L 09 Vibe with the 5 speed automatic transmission driving hard in the foothills of North Carolina.The mileage inproves after you put some miles on the car, I was getting 27 MPG to begin with. I have 10,000 plus on the clock and I am using 5w 20 Castrol synthetic blend oil and checking my mileage with a Scangage II and a pen and paper at every fill up.

Hi I'm new here and am hoping to get an 09 vibe GT sometime this month. I drive 30 miles one way to work each day and spend about an hour or so in traffic. My current car (2006 suzuki grand vitara) is getting about 20'ish mpg, so I am hoping that the vibe GT will give me better gas mileage. I will be happy with anything over 26 or 27 mpg and so far the 2.4L seems to be what I'm looking for I think. I have a quick question, I notice the gas tank is pretty small on this car. About 13 gallons only. How many miles do you guys drive till you need to fill up?

If you look back at what others have posted, you can expect 21-23 city and 27-29 hwy. Of course if you are concerned with fillups, (and yes, gas will go back up to $3 per gallon pretty soon) the 1.8 liter is getting 27-29 city and mid 30's on the highway. I'm averaging 30 on my 3 calculated fillups so far with my 1.8.

I love the look of the new GT but I don't mind the bigger engine. Although it would be nice if they have an option for the 1.8L with the GT look and everything.
