Read before you judge me. lolOkay, so at our mall, the one exit merges onto a route (route 93), if you are making a right, you have just have to yield to traffic coming... so now that you have the basic idea down, here is my story.I was exiting the mall, was going to the turn looking for traffic coming, only a cobalt which was far enough away. So I made the turn, accelerated to 40 quickly so that I didn't cut the cobalt off. I kept going on my way down the route doing 40, all of a sudden a cop is flying down the road, so naturally, I moved out of the way (into the turning lane) thinking it was going to an accident. It gets behind me. So I got back onto the lane, she gets into the lane. I was thinking there is no way that she was pulling me over for 5 over.So I get on the side of the road, get my liscense and registration out, roll down my window. The officer comes up and I say 'Hello miss'. She asks hows my day, I respond saying it was pretty well. She asked if I knew why she pulled me over (the whole time I was thinking of why but could only think of going 5 over) I naturally said for going 5 over. She denied my claim, saying that she could get me for 'Quick Acceleration', my jaw dropped. Inside my head, I wanna say 'are you kidding me?' 'What is this b.s.!?' 'Since when does a pontiac vibe accelerate quickly!?'. But instead I said, 'I am sorry, I didn't want to get in front of the car and slow him down' She said it was fine and it will only be a verbal warning. I said thank you, and she walked away'-End Story-But honestly... quick acceleration? Anyone with a base model knows its hard to even squeak the tires...Discuss.
+1, rummaging around for crap after you get pulled over is a good way to make a cop think you're pulling a gun on them. ...and for the first post: you don't have to have something that will roast the tires off to be able to do an improper takeoff. practically anything can be capable of getting up to a given speed in a manner that could be considered unsafe... especially if you're just talking about a lower speed limit like a sprint to 30 mph for example. the cop should have told you that you should have waited for the approaching car to pass if you were so concerned about slowing them down.

Never heard of anyone getting pulled over for "quick acceleration" esp in a base Vibe haha!!!! Aound here, we don't get pulled over for quick acceleration, just for unsafe starts. Kevzaz, be carefully next time you unleash the beast of the 1zz lol!!!

it must be a PA thing, because something sim. happend to me years ago.But i was in a Chevy CHEVETTE! all 53HP.HAHAIt's about aggressive driving, plain and simple. they thought it was aggressive to rev your car up to 5-7grand, if you were only trying to merg. They are really cracking down on the aggressive driving in PA.You could have argued with the degree of traffic and needing to merg safely, I did what i though was necessary, I am sorry and I will be more careful in the future to adjust my driving.

I would have said: "a ticket for accelerating too fast???" "Officer, don't you have better things to do like stop crazy WalMart shoppers from stomping on their store greeters?"
Haha, Ya, well, at least it was only a verbal warning. I would have been taking it to court if she tried to ticket me. Just thought it was a funny experience to share with everyone. =p
(removed)...I've got a lot of dumb tickets under my 10 points but never have I heard of someone getting a ticket for fast acceleration...I bet if you were in a Corvette or something they would have sent the SWAT team after you in their armored APC and probably an Apache with hellfire missiles!I had a cop let me go once because of the Vibe. At the Dream Cruise a few years ago they were throwing water down for cars to do burnouts. So I figured I could try it and either embarrass myself or make history. I did a really long one with a ton of smoke. I pulled off the water onto dry pavement and did another really long one with lots of smoke. The crowd was going crazy and couldn't believe it. So these guys in a tow truck look down and say "Uh oh you're in trouble now!" A cop rides his pedal bike up to my window and tells me to pull over "after you did the first one i was going to let you go but then you did it again so no more breaks." he said. The crowd is booing him and told him to let me go "come on he just did a burnout in a damn vibe! let him go!" so the cops looks at the car and says "you're driving a vibe not a Chevelle. I'll let you go but if you do anything at all to get pulled over tonight they can give you reckless for this burnout too."So looks like not all cops think Vibes have 400 horsepower

Yup, that's why when I get asked for license and registration, I let them know I have to get my license out of my handbag, and that I'll have to rummage in the glovebox for the registration so they know exactly what's going on and don't shoot me...

That would have been a fun ticket to take to court.Show me in the State Motor Vehicle Law Handbook exactly what defines "Accelerating Too Fast" and What evidence proved that this vehicle is capable of and/or actually doing that.
I just really want to know what they consider 'accelerating too fast' and if she had the radar gun on me the whole time. If not, it would get thrown outa court right there. and thats a funny story Merzbow. =]
it's kinda funny, i have been wondering about something like this happening recently to myself, and things i would possibly say to avoid the ticket or how to fight it. i drive a lot in rush hour traffic on the highways and on the on-ramp by me they have these stop lights in a poor place on the ramp. i get the point of them, it's to space people out to try and slow the rate of congestion but the placement of them can it kind of hard to safely get up to speed and merge with of the rest of traffic. why the comments on a base vibe being slow? i have no problem going from a full stop to um..... highway speed (or more xD) in the short amount of time given. i also have no trouble going from 50 up to passing speed in a hurry. maybe perception??

And as far as the cop trying to prove it, I'm sure it's set-up under "officer discretion" so no "proof" is necessary.. Just like it's officer digression on WHAT speed to write on a speeding ticket... BOTH get written, but only the "OD" one gets payed attention to...

Good thing you were not driving something faster LOLbut yeah I've heard of that kind of offense before. People have gotten a ticket for accellerating to quickly. ie: launching from stop lights. Its as exibition(sp) of speed.

I sat in traffic court for a ticket years ago. A bunch of kids were getting "careless driving" tickets (a step below "reckless driving") for breaking traction on the wheels when accelerating. Doing burn outs basically.I would assume most states have a "careless driving" type of statute. A nice little catch-all for the cops to use when they don't like how you're driving.

I'm sure some members remember my rant about the movie parking lot incident.
Quote, originally posted by Kevzaz » I'm sure some members remember my rant about the movie parking lot incident.wait, what??? haha. i can only assume it's like my area; theater is in downtown and all the parking there is 90min or 2 hours, and if you are watching something like LOTR or The Matrix you are going to get a ticket.
I got pulled over for speeding for the first time in 12 years about 2 weeks after I got my new 2.4L Vibe. I floored it to pass a cluster duck of traffic and before I knew it I was going close to 100 mph. I told the officer it was a new car and I wasn't used to it. He threw my DL back at me really hard and said "well, get used to it!" Next time we meet I'll give you a reckless op citation! Someone else's ruined Thanksgiving is your lucky day!" and he let me go. There was an accident report with injuries so he left.

I'm normally a slow poke. I set the cruise at 68-72. I was just irritated with some slow, indecisive drivers and decided to blow past them. I got up to 96 mph in about the time my old Vibe might have been going 80 mph. I also felt bad for the people who had the accident. I didn't see it, I think it was back the way I'd come.
one of my friends got a ticket to "accelerating too quickly" but he has a v8 camaro. supposedly the cop followed him for a few blocks and he "broke the tires loose" more than once (friend says he didn't). cop blocked him in the parking spot at a mini mart

No, no, NO! You NEVER admit doing something wrong. If the officer asks you why you think they pulled you over, it's an invitation to tell him what a lousy driver you've been so he won't feel bad writing you a ticket. The correct response is, "No, sir."Another question: "Do you know how fast you were going?"Correct answer is, "Yes, sir."Finally, "Do you know what the speed limit is?"Correct answer is, "Yes, sir."https://www.lineofduty.com/content/view/93024/128/
Good advice I might use the "do you know how fast you were going" I always say "around 45 or so" whatever I think the speed limit is.My dad always told me never to give out more information than what is asked of you in ANY situation. I live by that advice and I have caught my tongue in saying some pretty self incriminating things. I recommend everyone follow it. On the downside though a lot of uninformed people consider with holding information to be lying which is completely false so you have to deal with them every once in a while.
