"Poor Mans" improved audio system for 04' Vibe

Post by Tarfu43 »

I'm looking to improve the audio system on my 04' vibe. The system in my previous car was a Bose, so I'm suffering from withdrawal. My vibe came with the stock set-up, and I don't mind the head-unit, but the speakers are really lacking. My question is this: Can I get away with simply replacing the stock speakers only, and leave the existing head-unit? Does the head-unit have enough power to run some decent speakers? I realize this solution won't be a Bose, but I'm trying to come to a happy median without spending a fortune for a new head-unit, harness, faceplate, etc. If my head unit will be satisfactory, does anyone have any suggestions for speakers? Thanks very much!

I'm sorry, I don't know what you are talking about. Is that a "package" that is available on the vibe, such as a moonroof and enhanced audio. My vibe does not have a moonroof, if that tells you anything.

Replacing the speakers would be a start... But, not to get to the "blows" level... Adding a set of component speaker (woofer, passive crossover and tweeter) a small amp and some sound deadening would get you a LOT closer.. All of this could be run from the factory HU... On that note, the factory HU offers very little flexibility and/or tuning options.. It's possible with the factory unit, but going aftermarket makes a night/day difference as well... Things to consider.. It could be done rather cheap as well...

Everyone - Thanks very much for the input! After inspected my car, I've discovered that I only have 4 speakers. I'm going to take the car to a local car audio store and have them show me some options. Thanks again, fellas!
