215/55R16 Tires on 2004 Vibe?

Post by Tarfu43 »

Hello all. I just purchased an 04' Vibe AWD, which has 205/55R16 tires. I have a brand-new set of 215/55R16 tires from my old car (which met it's demise last week in a deer collision). Is it ok to install the 215/55R16 tires on the stock 16" rims that the Vibe came with? Is there clearance? Will it screw-up the drivetrain somehow?Any comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the fam! I'm not 100% sure but you should be ok with those tires. I put a bigger tire on mine, but my wife has it right now and I can't remember the actual size.

Welcome to GenVibe! You will be fine with 215/55/16's on the stock rims. 100% sure. I had 215/60/16's on my '05 AWD before without any issues.

Your speedometer readings will be 1.7% too slow so when your speedo reads 60mph you will be doing 61mph which is nothing to worry about.

Our local BJ's wholesale store has Goodrich 205/60/16 for 75 bucks installed. How will the 60's effect my car? THey're 75,000 mile tires and seems like a really good deal.

i had 215/55/16 on my vibe for a lil while but my dealer noticed and threatened to void my warranty so i had to switch back. normally, the vibe's speedometer reads 2mph slow so this will make it read correct/faster (according to gps) but will cause the odometer to read slow.

So you didn't notice any handling or wear problems with using the 215/55R16 tires? My Vibe is out of warranty, so that's not a problem for me. I just don't want to ruin anything. It seems from these posts that there isn't any problems with using this tire on the stock rims.

Hey, i had the same idea. I will probably pull off the Avid T4's (205/55) and put on some Kumho Ectsa ASX (215/55) - TW 420, AA and A rated. The Avid will then go on my 97 Accord to give me a slightly taller tire on it vs. the 205/50 I currently have.My GPS shows the speedo to be fast by about 5%: 63mph indicated is actually 60 mph. After tire change it should be more like 62 mph for a true 60 mph making speedo MORE accurate - I would throw THAT in the dealers face! They are SHORTCHANGING customers by 5% of their true miles.
