Life's Crazy little nuances

Post by joholste »

Now that all the craziness is done and I have time to relax and think, I begin to wonder...and I go in to a Screech-like trance and start dreaming with a cloudy border around all my thoughts...wait a minute. Ok so anyways I've been thinking that it's kinda funny how God decides to send wrinkles down your line to keep you on your toes and make sure you don't trip up. Approximately 3-4 weeks ago Becky received notification from her job that her position would no longer be in existence at the end of the year. She and I then made the decision to stop trying to get pregnant, at least until she could find a new steady job. But as my mom put it, those little babies have a way of coming when they want to not when you want to, and Becky told me on Saturday the 8th that she had taken a home pregnancy test and she was pregnant. We talked about it and decided then that we were going to hold off on telling people till we were nearing the end of the first trimester. So continuing down this crazy little adventure we went in Friday afternoon and had the pregnancy test confirmed by the blood test at the doctors office, and I was off to West Virginia with my junior high youth group from Church that I sponsor for the weekend. Well we had a wonderful retreat with some god, some songs, and a little paint ball thrown in. I drove the big 12 passenger van there and back and on Sunday when I got back to the house at about 4 in the afternoon I was exhausted and slept for about 3 hours. I got up and ate a little something and attempted to get some more sleep but sleep wasn't coming easy. At 300 in the morning Becky woke me up and said she was having major chest pain which she thought was really bad heart burn, and she needed to go to the hospital. So I got up and took her to the hospital and she made it into the ER around 330. She confessed to me while the nurses were out of the room that she'd had some pain on Saturday and hadn't really ate or drank anything on Sunday as a result. It took the nurses 6 tries to finally get an IV in her and then when she went into the ultrasound room they accidentally let that one dry out so they had to stick her again to get blood drawn for testing. All in all in the past 2.5 days becky has been a pincushion and been stuck 11 times. Finally around 530 they told us that her pain was not caused by heartburn, but instead she had gallstones in her gallbladder, and they believed that there was a stone that had passed out of the bladder and was blocking an exit duct of the liver. The doctors made the decision that she was in need of immediate surgery and scheduled her for surgery on Tuesday. So Monday afternoon I got to break the news to both sets of parents whilst i was out running errands for becky. Yesterday becky underwent surgery about 3 in the afternoon. Both she and the baby did absolutely fine and made it out of surgery at about 430. She got back to her room at about 545ish and they started giving her clear liquids and this morning they gave her real food for breakfast. The hospital released her at about 11 and I took her home and then went out to get soups and pick up her prescriptions. She is now blissfully asleep on the bed, and sheera is laying down by the bedroom door. I don't think she's laying there so much in a protective posture as she just wants to see becky. However I'm not going to let her see becky without a leash for a couple days, she's a little to hyper.

Wow, Joseph! That's quite a story. Congrats on the pregnancy. Best of luck to Becky to get well soon! Dogs are healing animals by nature and will stay by a person that is sick, and give them healing energy until they get well. Good idea with the leash, though, until the stitches are gone.

Becky reintroduced herself to sheera tonight and sheera was happy...after becky petted her she went and layed down on her bed. I finally got a hold of my grandma and told her the news which is one of the happiest things i've ever told her. Thanks again

Been there and done the gall bladder thing, the attacks are painful. As far as recovering from the surgery, it was not too bad - except the one time I unexpectedly sneezed! Tell her to press hard on the incision if she feels a sneeze coming on.

Well here's a little update from my side of the map. Becky has recovered quite well and is actually considering going back to work tomorrow and wednesday for half days. I think the best part is she still has yet to have any morning sickness, just this little thing of the surgery, you know nothing big. I do intend to come back to genvibe now. It has been a little while and a good break, as it was becoming too much of my life. I can hardly wait for the baby to come in July, but in the meantime i have rotator cuff surgery on the 3rd of December and recovery to take place. Oh yeah and this little thing of a presidential inauguration, which i have no clue what my part will be if any.
