Drove my vibe from toronto to montreal and back over the weekend...

Post by elkhaze »

I got 2009 vibe 1.8L auto, and now has 3100 km after this trip. All tire pressure 32psi, still origional oil, should change it now.So when I set the cruise to 100Km/h I managed to get 7.5 L per 100KM.When I was driving ~120 km/h managed to get 8.5L per 100KM (here I did not use cruise control, so speed varies between 110km/h and 130 km/h, also managed to get it to 160km/h 3 times for very short time just for the science, avoiding a ticket, handles well @ 160km/h)Probably optimum milage is around 90KM/h?Weather was pretty good between (-4C and 0C) and no traffic.A bit disappointed witht the highway feul consumption, probably the 2.4L engine does better mileage on the highway.Tell us what is your best milage in this cold weather?

Do you realize if you go 50+ over the speed limit your car gets taken away on the spot for 48hrs and you are left on the side of 401, and have to find your way back. Plus huge fine. Take care out there on the road.

Your fuel consumption seems a little high given mostly highway miles. We have only filled the tank once so far and it averaged 32.5mpg. The second tank seems to be heading that way as well. This is with mixed driving which means it is doing well since it is rated at 26/32mpg city/hwy. The 2.4L is worse according to the rating 21/28mpg or something like that.

Took my risk when going to 160km/h, but i had a clear view and an empty road, and no police hiding spots, maybe I was lucky. Guilty and irresposible but satisfied my curiosity. Maybe I should find some track that allow me to test my car.

Now I am confused....The US GM site saying the 2009 vibe 1.8L Auto gives 25/31 mpg (city/hw). I am getting 7.5L/100 KM (HW) google conversion 7.5 L/100km = 31.3619444 miles per gallon, so my car is according to US specs. The Canadian spec for the same care saying 8L/100km City and 6L/100km HW, so google calculator telling should get 29/39 mpg (city/hwy)So there is a discrepancies between the US and Canadian rating for the same car. Which one to believe? My car seems close to US rating, wonder what went wrong with the Canadian rating?

The US rating is based on the US gallon (3.79L) where the Canadian rating is based on the Imperial Gallon (4.55L). I'm guessing that is the difference.
