Animal horders .. PHIFF!

I am proud of my fellow rescuies The horder should be SHOT!On Saturday, 10/25, 7:15am, ABR volunteers Linda Kelty, Cathy Schadel and Bob Charlier met Chris from IVAR (animal shelter) in Peru. They went on a 35 min trip to Putnam County, down several miles on a gravel road to a house where they though 6 Brittanys were part of a rescue that needed to happen. This is their story.We had 7 vehicles and more crates then I have ever seen togetherat once. From ABR we had Bob Charlier with a cargo van, Cathy Schadel with her van. From IVAR there was 1 big van and 3 suv’s. Helen from Cavalier rescue with her friend Jackie.Thank heavens we had Bob and Cathy’s vans. The first dogs out where 2 blind Aussies. Then the Britts startedcoming out. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11, then a bloodhoundthen the Cavs 1,2,3,4,5,6, and 7 of them. Next came 2 Boxers. And 3 cats. Six birds had been picked up the night before. Then suddenly there is a 12th Britt that was in a locked room. We had expected 6 to 8 Brittanys. Can you imagine my surprise at each additionalBritt after the 8 Britt??? The 12th one nearly put me underground.I called Dr. Clayton (Fox Valley Vet Hospital in Ottawa, IL) with the numbers of Britts and Cavs. On Friday we were told they could only take 3 Britts and 7 Cavs. When I called this time, he said he could take 9 Britts and all 7 of the Cavs. In the end, they took all 19 - 12 Brittanys and 7 Cavs. We are deeply grateful to everyoneat Fox Valley!The owner’s house was a mess outside and the peoplewho went inside said it was so bad from poop and pee they were slipping on the floors. The stench was so bad you could smell it standing outside by the house. The poor dogs were in shock as they were beinggrabbed out of crates they had been living in - crates that had a lot of pee and poop in them. All the Britts except for one were kept in crates, fed very little with no access to water. There is no running water in the house. The Cavs did get to roam free in the house from what I understand and that is where all the mess on the floors came from. Thankfully most if not all of the Cavs are in much better shape than the Britts are.Most of the Britts are thinner, if possible, than another dog we took in earlier. Dr. C’s comment on her was “she is so thin there is no number on the emaciation chart for her.” These guys are worse. They pretty much have no muscle mass from being in crates most of the time. They are covered in fleas, foot pads look like they are burnt from pee. Collars so small they had to be cut off several of the Britts. Nails were so long on some of them it was incredible. Poop all over their coats even on the top of their heads.Hershey seems to have some health issues from vet records we could get. Hershey weighs all of 18.8 lbs. and he is over a yr old. He will break your heart. He is the thinnest if that is possible.Dante is right there with him. Jack and Lucy make me want to cry, they are so fragile looking. Lucy’s collar was starting to embed into her neck. Cathy, Jackie and Helen washed 18 dogs today. A few of Dr. C’s folks helped when they could. Cathy had to cut big mats off the Britts. Their nails are even infected.They inhaled their food after their bath, capstarand frontline. Some of them even started licking the water off themselves because they were so thirsty. Most, if not all, the Britts will get IV’s to hydrate them. The worst ones like Hershey, Jack, Lucy and Dante got theirs right away because they were so badly dehydrated.The good news is I got to interact with a few after their baths; like with Lucy who bellied over to me as I knelt down and went under me. Then suddenly she put her two front paws on my leg went nose to nose with me and then gave me some wonderful Brittany kisses. So I know she will be ok and make a great pet for someone. She then nibbled my ears as my gang does and from then on we were best buds.Jack who you will see pictured with me was shy and scared but understood I wasn’t goingto hurt him and I got a little kiss from him. So honestlyI think most if not all will be ok with a little love and understanding. They are all in clean cages now as you will see in the pictures, bathed, fed and have water to drink as they like. Dr. C will start doing blood work on Monday and poor Hershey will finally get the thyroid pills he needs so badly. His hair is falling out in clumps. We found out he has an underactive thyroid from his records but no record of meds given. We are going to need a few days to kinda get a grip on what if any health issues each dog has so they won’t be able to leave Ottawa for a bit.Some might have to come back to be spayed or neuteredbecause they are so thin right now.There are 2 dogs that may be 3 years old and the rest can’t be more then 1.5 to 2.So with the help of some wonderful people we were able to save 25 dogs and 3 cats today. We all also want to let Dr. Clayton and his staff know just how much we appreciate them for all they did today. Not one of the staff or Dr. C got or the volunteers got to sit down and rest today till after 2:30.The brother of the owner claims he is going to commither. I certainly hope she isn’t in a position to get any more animals. In the last 2 years we have taken 8 pups and now these 12 from her - a total of 20 Brittanys.Two yrs ago she had about 54 dogs, 22 boxers were included in that number. She only had 3 Britts left after we took the pups. In 2 yrs number increased to 12 Brittanys. i got my dog from the shelter hes a pita but i love him haha

Great work by the Brittany Rescue. Here's to hoping the dogs all find forever homes.
