Anyone know (pass. airbag sensor)

Post by 808 Vibes »

About how much weight would have to be on the passenger seat for it to say "PASSENGER AIRBAG ON"? This morning I did a little test. I put my laptop bag and my dog carry bag (with plump dog) I'm guessing the total load on the seat was about 18 lbs. and the light said "AIRBAG OFF" but the seat belt chime came on and stayed on until I put the seat belt around them, but the light still stayed flashing. It *USED* to work fine when I used to put the same load on it, of course, until capone's ultimate deface touched it. I think when they pulled the dash, they messed it up. Now I'll have to pay a shop that knows what they're doing to put it back together correctly, because I sure as heck am NOT going back there again!

make sure you let your ins and atty (if you have one) know about that bc from my experience, I'm sure many others, and sounds like yours as well, it's never been one or the other. It's always been all or nothing.

Thanks! Though if the total load (laptop bag and dog carry bag) wasn't enough to show it as "Passenger Airbag ON", why did the seat belt chime come on? Me thinks they definetely screwed it up big time This thing goes to court, I'm going to bring up why are they disassembling/reassembling cars when they have no Repair Dealer license!

That seems odd. I always thought the airbag sensor and passenger sensor should turn on/off at the same time...My wife's got the vibe at work so I can't verify it for you.

it's a second generation air bag. it knows there might be a kid sitting there, and knows that the air bag if deployed could kill said child, so even though the seat belt was beeping the air bag wouldn't have gone off.

if you wouldn't have said 'it worked fine before..." I would have said to you:1. the airbag off light is monitored by a sensor in the seat.2. the seat belt is grounded when you plug the seat belt in canceling the chime.
