Parking brake cables

Post by lofftjm »

I recently went in for brake service and I was told that my parking brakes cables are shot. I'm sure they are as that was the reason for bringing it in for servces, the parking brake was not releaing fully.Anyway the repair shop said that they were unable to find the necessary cables for my 2003 vibe T. They said the delar had non and that they were on backorder. They also said the manufactturer does not have any either. The repair shop estimate lists the part as "Rear E Brake Cables" and they cost 74.67 each. The repair shop said that there is a separate left and right cable, I'm not sure if it is the same cables and I need two of them or if they are completely different. On the Raybestos website I found the following partsLBC95318 "Professional Grade, Right Rear, All Wheel Drive, Vehicles Equiped with Speed Sensor"BC96086 "Professional Grade, Front"These are available from various website for $27.50 and $13.66 respectively. Can anyone tell me exactly what I need?

They just need the cables? I can't imagine that being very hard to find. Have you tried rockauto.com?

@ $76 for each cable, that better include installation. Cables are not that expensive.

I'm guessing you use your parking brake? Or maybe you don't, because it's an auto and you went in for inspection and they pulled it, like they always do, and it hung up... I can't stand NY's inspection... (Used to live in Buffalo myself NT actually)Do you have the drums on the rear?

It is a manual (Vibe GT) and I use the parking brake all the time...at least I did until the one day I went to back out of the drive and it was seized. That is when I brought it in to get serviced and this whole thing started. The repair shop freed it up but said not to use the parking brake until the cables get replaced.I'm going to try the Toyota dealer and see what they say. Hopefull the Matrix and the Vibe use the same part and I can get it from them. The Pontiac dealer doesn't have the parts.
