wire attached to radio bezel

What is the wire that is attached to the radio bezle does, I broke the plastic piece that holds it in, it is the one with a white plastic piece attached to it and the wire looks like the brake cable on a bike.

That is the cable that goes down to the vent direction control, it forces the recirculate button to release when you move the knob to the defrost/floor or defrost position so it draws in fresh air.I broke mine too, but was able to get it stuck in there just good enough to stay.It won't hurt much to not have it in place, but you will want to manually turn the recirc off when using defrost otherwise you'll have increased fogging on the windshield.

yeah I can't believe it is attached like that, but I guess as long as it doesn't effect anything serious I think I will just leave it alone.
