Fan Motor Noise

Post by jake75 »

Yesterday o.k. Today observed an irregular knocking/tapping noise when the fan motor is on. Appears to be coming from the area behind the glove box. Noises are about 1/2 to 1 second apart. The fan seems to slightly speed up/slow down in sync with this noise. Looks like I am facing my first non-warranty repair.

Noise Behing the Glove Box

Post by ou.grizzly »

I did a quick search and there are a few threads that seem to coincide with the noise you are hearing specifically behind the glove box. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... d?id=29575 - this is a good one as there are diagrams, pictures, and step by step instructions on how to carry out the repair. Seems the issue may be the HVAC Acuator Door that is making a popping/flapping/clicking/tapping/knocking noise or how owners have described it.

FYI - finally got this fixed. WITH my supposed 10% discount. #88970277 Fresh Air Inlet Actuator $72.531.2 hr labor 97.32Shop Materials 9.73Sales Tax 12.93Total $191.70Also signed up for Social Security (office is a 15 min walk from the dealer) while they did the work. I was told that if I waited until 2009 I would not get the benefit of the 5.7% cost of living increase. I am not sure that is right but I decided not to take the risk. Was going to sign up effective January 2009 anyway.
