Newbie here: Just bought a 2005 Vibe w/5-spd.

Post by 5speed4 »

My other car is a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am SE with 5-spd 2.2L, which I also love (37-38 mpg in 80% highway commute). I needed more hauling space so I was going to get a Chevy HHR (of which I LOVE the looks) with the same engine/tranny combo. Well, I sat in one and the windshield/roof interface was just too low for me (I'm 6'5") so I was bummed. The Vibe was second on my list, so I went to a dealer and sat in a one and was impressed how roomy it felt. All the dealer had was autos, but at least I knew I could fit in one and it was comfy. So I set about looking for one at a good price with everything I wanted. While I was looking, I knew I preferred either silver, white, or red with the appearance package (but was prepared to settle for other colors and for one w/o appearance package). Since I wanted a 5-spd, I figured I'd have to travel a bit as they're much rarer, so I was looking on autotrader.com, cars.com and even ebay. Even though I was prepared to travel up to 300 miles, I had no luck finding one I liked (they were usually too high priced and/or black in color...I've sworn off black cars as they're too darned hot and too hard to keep clean).Well, I tried craigslist and what do you know? There was a local 2005 silver 5-spd with appearance package, alloys, PW and cruise-control with only 24K miles...and they were asking $11K which was a great price (according to KBB and NADA). Anyway, I've only put ~120 miles on it, but so far I love the car. The previous owner kept it very nice. It's torquier than I thought it would be and I love the placement of the shifter and all the conveniences in the driver's seat. I've attaced a photo. I hope it's able to match the fuel mileage of my 2003 Grand Am.Looking forward to lot of good info on this forum. -Tim

Thanks guys, and thanks for posting my pic directly in the thread. How did you do that?To answer your question, I don't really plan on doing any modding.I have a performance car already (1996 Chevy Caprice LT1). I did notice, however that the dealier installed a big shiny exhaust tip on it.(It's listed on the window sticker, which the previous owner kept and gave to me, as a dealer-installed option).

you need to upload your photo to a web photo hosting sitelike photobucket.comcreate an account with them, once you have that, you can upload the photo like you did here in the forum. Only diff is there will be links below each of the photos that will copy and paste in to forum, alowing the photo to show up.I got your photo to show up because you uploaded the photo to the genvibe site. I simply right clicked on the photo and copied the properties and then I added {img][/img} tags around the properties of the photo.

First fill-up: 480.6 miles / 11.211 gal. = 42.87 mpg.The gas gauge was slightly below the 1/8 tank level (the low fuel light had not come on yet).20% city, 80% highway commute plus a 60 mile highway trip.

Just out of curiosity, would you have gotten the Salsa Vibe if you found it? Here's what that looks like.

I know that sunset orange color is popular nowadays (I see it a lot on Chevy/GMC trucks, and it was very popular on Z28s and Trans Ams), but it just doesn't do anything for me.
