do rattles happens when temperature changes?

recently i've found a few rattles in my car. the door, the ceiling on the driver side, and a tiny little buzz/rattle in the cd player area. the rattles only happens when i drive to work in the morning and when if i go home at night, both of which the temperature outside was cooler like in the 60's or so and 50's in the morning. during the day when the temperature is hot there's no rattles at all =/ i only get the rattles when i hit bumps or on those rough roads...otherwise it's pretty quiet. do you think change in temperature has anything to do with the rattles? gonna have dealer check next week.

I have not noticed any noise from the doors or headliner, but I have the same issue with the buzzing noise near the radio that you mentioned. I have poked and prodded but can't locate the exact spot. If the weather allows it, I may pull the radio this weekend and try to find it. I'll keep you posted, let me know if find the source before I do.

Plastic shrinks as temperature is lowered, which can cause parts that are tight at higher temps to become loose (possibly causing an NVH issue).

The only rattle I have seen in the 2009 is actually a design flaw: the passenger side seat belt anchor next to the center storage unit will vibrate against the storage unit. The anchor was not built to flex out towards the seated passenger. As a result, you need to take a black piece of female velcro and attach it to the storage unit facing side of the anchor so it won't rub against it (black velcro so it won't be noticable)I sure hope the rattles you are experiencing are not endemic to the '09. I have crawled over every inch of this car and find it amazingly well designed/built/assembled, especially comared to the original '03. Here's wishing us all a rattle free Vibe (toasted with an '06 Zinfandel from Sonoma).

i guess with the GT's stiffer suspension when hitting pot holes or dips on the roads it'll generate a bang or rattle more...the one on the headliner i will have the dealer check...when i tap on that area i can hear it rattling...maybe something loose inside or something =/

Yeah ! Damn right ... I have used some duct tape here and there behind the dash board once and in the doors. Still got to go see under the passenger seat where I'm sure some fu.. noise is coming now and then. GM still got a lot to learn when it comes to rattles ... Frustrating but not a "so big deal" after all. The Vibe is too hot besides this little downside. My opinion though.

yah i love this car to death even tho it has a few rattles...but the rattles come and go...the other day when i went to the dealer to get my centercaps glued on i asked them about the rattles but went for a drive and nothing =/ it only happens when it's cold...but now it's been warming up during the day and there's no rattles...only in the morning when it's cooler will i hear the rattles. it's weird tho, the headliner rattle was gone for a week or so and now it came back this morning...after work there was no rattle lol the car is so moody

I actually had a seat replaced because that is where they thought it was coming from.... After a week, it was apparent that was not the issue....But yes, temps do have an effect, as the previous poster said, the expansion/retraction of the plastics due to temps will cause different squeaks and rattles.

ok at first i thought i had a rattle in my door...but after driving with the windows closed and music off i finally found out where it was coming from...it's not the door...it's coming from the buttons that controls the outside mirrors. when i hear the rattle and if i press against that area slightly the rattle would stop.it's really weird, the headliner rattle came back last week and stopped again lol it comes and goes...oh well it's not as bad as my previous car which drove me nuts hahaedit: oh yeah, will the rattles be more constant once winter comes? like when it's in the 30-40's?

09 with 2.4 auto, get a creak/itch noise from radio area on cooler mornings, as soon as heater warms up the interior just a bit it goes away. I guess it will be there all winter.

Funny, I started to get a buzzing type sound coming from the passenger side of the either within the dash or the right door. It only starts when the car gets moving. and stops when the car stops. Yes, the outdoor tempereture was in the mid 40's. I started turning up the heater controls the day before. Just do not know where it's coming from yet. It's also a 2009 Vibe.

a little small update...i was able to fix that rattle i had on my drive side air vent area near the buttons for the left/right mirrors. well at least it's not as constant anymore. i was fiddling around and was able to pry that trim piece open and tried to guess where the rattle is coming from. since when i put some pressure in that area the rattle goes away, so i just put a small piece of foam weather strip thing to cushion it. so tonight i went for a drive and so far the rattle is not as noticeable anymore. rattles really drive me crazy...the other night driving home it was so irritating i punched it...hurts like a mofo lol

I finally got around to investigating the source of my rattle. It was a wad of crumpled electric tape sticking to the wiring for the gear shift light. I wanted to get pics, but my camera is having issues and I think it may be time for a new one. Here's how I found it:1. remove the shift knob, it just unscrews and lifts up.2. pry up the trim piece surrounding the gear shift (silver trim). I used my fingers and it popped right off.3. lift out the plastic piece (bezel?) that surrounds the shift lever to expose the shift assy and wiring. Be careful with this one, it has locking tabs to hold it in place, don't break them. I don't know how or why a wad of tape was stuck to the top of a wire harness, but I have not had the buzzing sound (vibration) since I pulled off the tape and threw it away.

I have a rattle in the dash behind the left side of the instrument cluster in my base '04. Sometimes it goes away if I give the dash a good thump. Seems to be worse in the cold, though.
