Differential Bearing Diagram & Specs Needed

Post by DansVibe »

Awesome Forum. My passenger side half shaft is loose and wobbly where it enters the transmission /differential case area (Engine side not wheel side) on my o3 base vibe. The CV joint itself is fine at both ends. The free play loosness of about 1/8 occures where it enters the case. I am assuming there is a bearing of sorts in there. Guesing it might be called the differential bearing based upon on line parts searching I have been doing. Need to determine what exactly is in there and order parts, plan my proceedure and get it done ASAP. In need of some torque and part specs, and a diagram so I can figure out the proceedure a little faster and easier. Likely going to need a few more essential parts and supplies as always so it would be great to be fully prepared before I get into it. Depending on the procedure I may do both sides while I am at it. Down time has to be minimised to a weekend, max, as this car is my bread and butter so any experienced help and suggestions would be useful. Thanx.

did you download the repair manual from http://www.matrixowners.com ?If not download that... there is a link on the front page of the webpage. It's a link to megaupload.comonce on that page enter the code in the upper right hand corner. Wait 45seconds for the download to begin.Once it's downloaded use the index witch opens up in your internet browser. From there, are links to specfic areas that you are looking for.

Automatic transmission. Those pdf diagrams and specs look awesome. How do I find them for the automatic? Have not had much time yet to go through the repair manual as just finishing up a days work. Imagine I will find them in there.Thanks.

Here's the pdf for the A246E auto trans, but it doesn't show the internal workings, like it does for the manual trans. Reason is, there's a whole separate service manual for auto trans - but it's not being hosted online anywhere.http://madstyle1972.com/Repair...n.pdfh ... ..0.pdfFor your info, here's the index for most of the 2003 Matrix service manual. It's being hosted by Madstyle - so it might not be available forever. Just click an entry from the index and it will link you to the pdf or service procedure:http://madstyle1972.com/Repair/Dan, were you planning to do the repair yourself? Tranny work can be real complicated, especially FWD, plus you need specialized tools. If you are, I would suggest buying a copy of the Toyota or Pontiac A246E auto trans manual for about $15-$20. Or else, subscribe to alldatadiy.com for $27/year. With Alldatadiy, you get the complete service manuals for your year and model, including electrical diagrams and all TSB's.
