RPM bounce

Post by skistorm »

Hi!I've had an '04 Vibe since it had 18k miles (57k now). Ever since I got it, there's been a bounce in the RPMs when you take your foot off the gas. It only seems to, or mostly happens, around 35-45 mph (so 4th gear). It's automatic. I take my foot off the gas, the RPMs drop, to lets say 1600 or so (I might be off, just guessing from memory), then they'd bounce back up a few hundred to 1800 almost instantly or within a second. The 'problem' hasn't gotten any worse since I bought the car and I'm just trying to find out if this is a problem, and if it is, any ideas what it might be?The bounce isn't ever anymore than 200 RPMs and again, it's mostly or all happening when cruising around 35-45 mph. It's never happened at a speed so low that the car got close to stalling. Thanks for any advice!

I honestly can't remember what it was like to drive an automatic Vibe. But when I put my car in neutral and take my foot off the clutch (while moving) the revs will hop up a bit and then settle back down close to idle (without me giving it any gas). Not sure if its relevant.

I noticed mine does the same thing. I dont remember seeing it doing that before I started modding though. i thought it was something set wrong in my emanage fuel map or it was the anti-stall activating or i had a air leak somewhere. Have you tried resetting the ECU? Have you checked the PCV line for leaks? Does it bounce a little at idle?

Thanks for the replies. I haven't tried resetting the ECU. I'll do that and see what it does. I haven't checked for leaks either, but it doesn't idle rough at all. The RPMs are steady when it idles.
