Will 15" steel rims fit on 2009 Vibe 1.8 Base?

Post by Merlin.TRD »

I've been reading the forums and I can't find an answer for this.I have a base 1.8L 2009 Vibe, and I was wondering if 15" steel rims would clear the brakes?

I'm not sure that there is anyone on here that would know that for sure yet.I'm guessing no, based on the fact they don't offer it with 15" wheels, but it's just a W.A.G. at this point in time.

I don't think there has been a definitive answer about this, mostly speculation. Best way to know for sure is to go a dealer and ask to try out to see if they would fit, that's what I did to find 16 inches for my 2.4L

Yea I was thinking about doing that.A friend of mine owns a tire/wheel shop so I may take the car down to him and test fit some 15" rims.Too bad the bolt pattern is 5x100 because I have 15" 5x114 already at home, with winter tires.

well... you can always try to sell them to gain back some part of the costs.

Yes, I bought 15" steelies and tried them on my 2009 base Vibe, and it fit. But, not all 15" steelies will fit. Those one came from a Toyota dealer. I tried another set coming from a Pontiac Sunfir (same bolt pattern), but it did not clear the caliper, so be careful. But definetly it's possible to put 15" steelies on a 2009 base Vibe!

Now the next question is what tire need to go on the car so that the speedo and such match up... will this hurt the warrenty?

I ride with 195/65/15 "Q" rated Snow Tires in the winter. There is a 4 revolution per mile difference so the speedo difference is negligible. However I did have to reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. I don't see how it is possible to have any effect on warranty coverage. Some tire dealers will not sell you a tire with anything but an "H" rated tire because that is the OEM tire that Pontiac puts on the Vibe. I'm assuming, for the moment, that you are using the steelies for Snow Tires, right?

Now another question about the TPMS.... did you have to get that installed on the 15" rims you bought? and how much did that cost?

I upgraded to 17in wheels with my 2009 vibe, is it possible to use 15in? To my understanding, the brakes are bigger with the 17in wheels package.Another question are, what do I look for in a steel wheel? Offside, etc? How do I figure these things out?

This member started a thread a long time ago about having 15" steelies his or her 2003 Pontiac Vibe. They were able to get them to work, but of course this was a 2003 model, not sure about a 2009. Best advice is to order 1 rim up from a place, get it in, see if it fits, and if it does not, then you know to order 16" version. Here is the thread:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=869My guess would be yes as the 09 Corolla comes standard with 15 inch rims, yet the 09 Matrix comes with 16" rims - so?
