...yup...temps were in the upper 30's this mornin...time to add my spare key to the detachable keyring so I can let the car warm up and lock the doors. That is one of the few things they did wrong on the Vibe, imo.

If you try to lock the car with the FOB while it is running it will automatically unlock. Try it...

I wouldn't mind having that problem. I still have to run the AC just so I am not covered in sweat when I arrive at my office. I think we are supposed to be right at about 100 today. It is starting to cool off a little though. Thats one thing I don't like about Phoenix, AZ! There are only two seasons...HELL and Summer. I might just have to take the family up to the snow bowl in Flagstaff, AZ this winter and put my snow traction control button to the test.

I would get heated leather seats before a remote start. But I can not afford either at the moment. Heated seats installed is approx $400 & remote start installed (correctly) is approx $500. Besides, the wife would be getting a remote start on her Aztek waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before I would get one on my Vibe.

Remote start systems can be installed for like $200 bucks (think that is how much the one I have was) and it was installed correctly....

Yep, the temps were dabbling in the 30's overnight here in the Twin Cities. It's about time for my wife to take the other set of keys to work that has the astrostart control for her vibe. After having the car sit all day outside in freezing temps, she definately appreciates the added convenience. Even though it is an aftermarket system, the dealership installed it before purchasing the car so if there were any issues, it'd fall back on the dealership. It definately is the cat's meow...almost wish I had it on my truck.

I can get you hooked up if you come to duluth hahhaOh hey turbo timer? meh I just let it idle then turn if off if I drive hard BUT it has a built in one that no one knows..If I drive hard then park it in the garage, it stays on how nice of mazda BC - just drink tons of hot coffee/hot chocolate before you get in the car...maybe mix that with some kaluha, should make the "until warm" easier hahaha

i used to let the vibe warm up before i would drive, but it kills the MPG. in this 'green' world where we are concerned about saving by the earth by re-using bags or buying a hybrid to save gas; but we are going to waste gas(and money) for a little convenience? i guess it's just me because i got used to the cold. after the 1st half of winter with the vibe i haven't run the heat ever in the car except to defog if i need to.my tip that's way cheaper, buy a thermal coat. xD
I already plan on getting some cheapskin seat covers for the fronts. That should help a little with the ice cold leather seats. Also, Fleet Farm has some cheap heated seat pads that just plug into the cigarrette lighter. Might check that out too.Quote, originally posted by tribalman »i used to let the vibe warm up before i would drive, but it kills the MPG. in this 'green' world where we are concerned about saving by the earth by re-using bags or buying a hybrid to save gas; but we are going to waste gas(and money) for a little convenience?Hellz Yeah! IL is warm compared to MN in the wintertime. When it is -20F actual temp with -50F to -60F windchills, your damn straight I'm warming up the car. In my case my work is only mile away so I need to warm it up to prevent very bad things from happening...lol.

A whole mile to work? Ditch the car, get some warm booties, good coat, hat and gloves for the winter. You'll be warm in less than a tenth of a mile, and then you only have 9 to go. Plus, you won't be able to get any 'greener' than that.I've lived in some pretty cold places, but I've never started a car and left it running, just to warm it up. If you put some warm clothes on, you can survive the few minutes it takes the heat to start to flow and you don't use the extra fuel.

Problem with that is that I may need to go to our assembly building (5 miles away) at any given time during the day, some times multiple times a day, otherwise I would have ridden my bike there all summer.
