2003 Vibe AM Radio Died

Post by cegarbage »

Two bulbs went out that control lighting for my A/C and heat console. My mechanic took apart the dash and replaced the bulbs. When everything was reconnected, my FM radio worked, but my AM no longer does. i just have a 1 CD/ regular radio, no changer. My mechanic is trustworthy, he tried a different antenna, said all the cords in back are plugged in. This is the first time he has been stumped on any issue.I came back two days later, he checked all the wires and verified everything is in the right place. After his re-check, now half the LCD where the radio station and clock appears is burnt out.Has anyone ever had this problem? Now that the LCD lighting has burned, I'm wondering if the radio is indeed dead. However, I don't want to buy another unless I have to.

There is an antenna amplifier that will limit your reception when it does not receive any power. FM may come in with reduced signals and AM may not be available at all. It's been so long since I've seen the insides of a Vibe's dash but there was a small black wire somewhere that ran back to the antenna. (that was covered in some older threads if you want to have a look around, people ran into issues with this when they went to an aftermarket radio.) It's either not receiving any power or the antenna amplifier is dead. The lights burning out are a common occurrence unfortunately, we have a thread about replacing those around somewhere.Welome, by the way!

I found this post, but it refers to the problem being with after market radios. Is this something I should show to my mechanic, or is there another thread someone can recommend? Thanks!http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=5952
